Master volume in 4 cable method

When you use pod hd (500) with 4 cable method, it's obvious that you control the total volume of your ampli with the "past volume" knobs of the amplifier. When i switch to the pre models of the hd 500 i have every time to re-match the output volumes with the "volume" knob of the hd. But I have to do this operation with ALL THE PRESETS. The "master volume" knome is always all the way up, it's completely useless because if I turn it down, it affects also the volume of my REAL amp presets. It would be WONDERFUL if I could use the "master volume" of the HD to control ONLY the volume of the internal AMP modeling and bypass this feature when I use the PREAMP of my amplifier. Please, tell me that this is possible!!!
The MASTER knob is applied globally at the outputs of the HD500,. With 4CM you need to use the 1/4" output so no, there is no practical way of having the Master volume operate on the modelled amps only.
I balance off my modelled presets for Modelled amps against presets for 4CM by using the modelled amp volume and/or mixer and/or studio EQ boosts to match the level of the real preamps and saving the preset. The Master stays on 100% the whole time. More details in the doc I put together here --> http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2522
I will say that it ain't trivial balancing off modelled against real presets. I tend to try and play a loud, clean chord passage into the looper (in post) and leave it playing while I move to other presets and match the levels manually before saving them.
In this case, it could be wonderful having a knob to change the volume of all the modeled amps in one step instead of doing it in every preset. Line 6 should implement a sort of choice in the global settings where you can choose to use the "volume" knob as a volume in the current preset or global, for all the amp models. Unfortunately, I have an 5150 peavey and the master volume of the power amp could not affect the effects loop, so the volume of the amp models is controlled only by the hd500. Every time I play in a different place I have to rebalance all the amp models for matching the volume of my real amp.
OK so if I understand this right from the manual: the FX Loop is implemented directly after each of the channel volumes and there is no master volume after the loop. Therefore in 4CM the master volume on the POD becomes the overall master volume knob for the amp.
I suppose where I am a bit confused is that you shuld be able to
- set the 5150 channel volumes pretty high/where you want them when you play at gig levels.
- set the modelled pre-amps so that they match the 5150 levels at gig levels.
- control the overall level for the both real and modelled amps using the Master Volume
When playing at home the pod master would go down and both modelled and real preamp levels should be reduced to a pretty much equal degree.
This is desireable right? Or am I missing something here ...
I have to admit that I did not think to this solution. This is wonderful because i can crank up the post valves (I've got also a thd hotplate as a passive attenuator), and now use real and modelled amps at the same volume in every situation. Thank you JIM!!!

just make sure you turn off the amp before unplugging the pod, etc. or you'll get a very loud pop from the amp.
