It is indeed a shame. I opened a ticket today as well but doubt that any timely response is coming. POD HD 500 through Logic Pro now plagued by crackling and occasional hyper latency.

never had cause for complaint with Line 6 till this. Realy shoddy stuff, when supposedly "premium" products are left dead in the water because of a new OS.

Re: crackling / artefacts studio gx with mountain lion

I am amazed to find this thread.  I have been sufferring with this issue for months and I was just not using any Line 6 program with my Mac.  Now I see this is a universal issue with all users.  Wow at least I have a lot of company.  Line 6 says on Oct. 11 that we will be fixing this in the next couple weeks.  I'd say there time is up!

    Same problem as everyone above.

I tried to create a support ticket with Line6, but their system is designed to re-route you back to these community forums. Brilliant.

So, here's my rant to add to the list:

    My Gear:
    Mac: Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Software: Logic 9 Express

    Interface: Line6 UX1

    Mic: MXL Condenser Mic

Yes, I reinstalled Pod Farm (2.55). Yes the monkey updated everything fine.

    Problem:

I launch PF2. I open my Logic E9 and start to record via the Condenser Mic. A few seconds into the recording, huge, distorted crackling begins. Even on playback, the crackling has been recorded. Even tapping the mic with my finger or talking into it creates this loud crackling. I can close Logic 9E and reopen, and begin recording again. I can record a few seconds again, then the crackling. Same if I close and re-launch PF2.

As one poster replied above, it helps to launch PF2 FIRST before Logic, but that only gains you a few more seconds of recording time.

I also tried different buffer sizes, but didn't solve anything.

Bottom line, it's impossible to record like this. I can't relaunch and re-record every few seconds. It's rediculous.

ATTN PEOPLE OF LINE6: I know you said you're "working on it," but how long does it take to update a driver? Surely you have more than one guy and a hot-pocket staring at the code scratching his head on this one. If you think people won't simply sell their Line6 gear and move to something else, you're wrong (I stopped using another brand to use Line6 instead, but I'll jump ship if I'm forced to -- if the gear doesn't work, the gear doesn't work and I can't record. It's real simple like that). Every day this goes unsolved, you lose a customer. Can you afford that in this economy? Everone's going to update to Mountian Lion very very soon and run into this problem (if they haven't already). Don't wait for Apple to fix it (if that's what you're betting on). Get one of your programmers on this 24hrs a day until it's fixed. Pay him/her over-time or hell, we'll all buy him/her a case of hot-pockets if it'll help. Just get it done. That's how business is done.

If for some reason it's truely a technological nightmare, at least tell us exactly what it is upfront. You'd be surprised how resourceful the community is. Any and all ideas should be welcome, and one just might spark the right inspriration to fix this issue. Right guys/gals? Just saying "we're working on it" sounds like someone put a pin in it and then went to lunch. "We're working on it" means nothing, especially since the issue's been known since at least Aug 9th.

That's it. You said it all.

I asked for a date for the new (new) driver on my suport ticket and got this answer from HugoLine6:

    "Hello,

We are working on a solution to fix these issues as it is a top priority for us to get this working for everyone.  Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with a date as to when this is going to be available.  There is no way for us to publicly estimate what it is going to take to get this resolved.

Another workaround that has helped customers is selecting your UX1 as the interface for your DAW (Logic), then change the audio device to built-in audio, then, change it back to the UX1 as the audio device.  Please let us know if this helps at all.

    Regards,

    Line6Hugo"

By the way, launching POD Farm before or doing this worarround Hugo mentioned didn't help me at all.

More than 3 month without a single recording. Delightful.

FWIW, at the bottom of the page click:

    Support>>Contact Technical Support>>Contact Technical Support

or from the Support Drop Down at the upper right of the page

    >>Contact Technical Support>>Contact Technical Support

either way leads you to this link

    http://line6.com/support/tickets/add.html

Not that this helps you currently.

But hopefully the more support tickets they get, they more information they will have to resolve the issue.

(Although you would think they have enough to go on already!!)

Ok, I have an open suport ticket about since Sep. 21.

Today I updated with this message:

    "Hugo,

On my behalf and of other customers, I want to ask you and Line6 to put the situation on this problem on the topics related. Everyday I see new people complaining and you guys never show up to tell us what this big problem is. It won't take more than 10 minutes of your day to give a status of this solution. Please, transparency is the only thing that could relieve this tension.

I suggest that you tell us about:

    - What happened? What does your team know about this incompatibility? Is there something that Apple could do to help? How big is this thing?

    - How many employees do you have working on this and how much time/day?

    - Is there something we could do to help?

    - What is the kind of assistant that Line6 will provide in case of not fixing this?

The topics that are discussing about this subjects are:

    http://line6.com/support/thread/88579

    http://line6.com/support/thread/86555

    http://line6.com/support/thread/86574

    http://line6.com/support/thread/86809

    http://line6.com/support/thread/86844

    http://line6.com/support/thread/69085

Please answer us. Talk to us. It's been more than 3 months. The first topic about this same problem is from JULY! We demand transparency and conversation.

    Thank you,

    Pedro"

I hope this will help at least about the conversation beetween Line6 and us.

    Greetings from Brazil.

Re: crackling / artefacts studio gx with mountain lion

I did not read the whole Discussion but I've had the same issues with UX2... This is a copy of my answer in another Thread, maybe it helps...

    __________________________________________________________________

    My working solution ...until now...

    - install the latest driver (7.1.9) problem is still present after that on 10.8.2 but in my case it's coming an going in period (maybe a minute...)

    - go to system preferences -> Line 6 Audio Midi-Devices then try to INCREASE THE BUFFER SIZE

...after that I played on instrument input about 10 minutes without any crackling/ artefacts... Good Luck! Please let me and people know If it works!!!

...Never touch a running System... it's hard to learn that... I just upgraded from OSX 10.6.8 to 10.8.2 yesterday... I thought after that long time since the release of 10.8 all heavy problems should be solved... Now I am thinking about going back to my Time Capsule Backup of the latest Snow Leopard state... Since Mountain Lion there are many performance lags... slow Logic Pro 9 GUI and now this UX2 crackling Problem... I hope it's gone now...

    Short Info about my System:

    Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011) • OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) • Logic Pro 9 (9.1.8 1700.67 32-Bit Mode) • Line 6 UX2 (Driver 7.1.9) • second Full-HD Monitor via DP/HDMI • also using Apple TV...

Many updates for the Line6 products but still not a word about the main issue. Still impossible to use their products as an interface audio on MacOS 10.8.2, not a single word from the company...

    Absolute shame !

I'm sucked by the same problem. osx 10.8.2 + Tonport KB37. all my devices work well on another mbp with 10.7. I open the line6 monkey EVERY morning, and feel sad over and over again. Is there ANYONE who read all the complain? Reply something like 'we're working on that '.

    What a shame!

I can confirm and inform you all about that there is a workaround and fix for this issue that works 100% every time on a MAC 10.8 Mountain Lion at least for the UX2 in combination with Garageband but I'm sure this works for all recordings including PodFarm latest version.

I have had to come up with this solution myself and it has cost me a lot of work. Both in terms of that I have not been able to record and use my equipment but also in troubleshooting and testing. I will be glad to share ttroubleshooting and development of this issues to Line6 in my ticket 186665. In order to share this info with Line6 I will need some compensation for my findings.

If you are in contact with Line6 you can refer your questions into this ticket 186665 if you are intrested in having a workaround that works 100%. Otherwise we all could wait some more weeks or month for a final fix by Line6.

Re: crackling / artefacts studio gx with mountain lion

You cannot be serious. In one statement I guarantee you have infuriated everyone in this message thread — you certainly have infuriated me.

You are, without question, not the only person who has sunk hours or days into this problem. To think that your time is worth more than anyone else's on here is absurd. Don't come onto this message board dangling a guaranteed solution in our faces, just to turn around and say "you gotta pay me first!!!"

If you search around the message threads, you will find that MANY people have found "solutions." These things tend to suppress, NOT fix, the problem, and only for a handful of users. For the vast majority, nothing has worked, and for everyone, the underlying problem has remained.

Now I have no problem with you feeling that you deserve something for your hard work. From Line 6, sure, go ahead and request any kind of consulting/finder's fee you want. Large software companies regularly pay users for finding and fixing bugs. From us, your fellow users, I can tell you that if YOU, out of all these people, have completely fixed this problem universally, you will be eternally in all of our gratitude. However, I, for one, will NOT be paying you for it.
