I cant seem to update my Tyler Variax to the new firmware.
I connect it ok with 2 green lights, then when the update starts , the red flashing light on the Variax side comes on and and error message - "unknown midi error make sure cables are connected"
Any suggestions?
Hi
I've had the exact same thing. I just bought a jtv-59 last week. it was on 1.71. I followed instructions and like you got 2 green lights then after a couple minutes the power on the guitar shutoff and I got an error like yours (variax in was flashing red). I've logged a support ticket but so far no luck. Having said that I was able use the upgrade from file process to successfully upgrade to 1.82. When tried 1.9 using that same method with guitar still on and attached, it failed. Maybe there is something wrong with the firmware patch itself?
Please post if you get it to work and explain how.
thanks
Yea, I'm having the same problem as tnickasn.
Just bought my JTV-69S last week, hooked it all up this evening, using the included usb adapter box, after the download and halfway through the flash the guitar clicked and shut off and I immediately got the flashing red light on the variax side of the usb adapter.
Then it kept going for a while, and Line 6 Monkey says it lost connection and wouldn't reconnect with the JTV. Will try to reflash with an older flash than 1.9 tomorrow, gettin late. Using the latest Line 6 Monkey 1.62.
Windows 7 computer, JTV Battery showing 4 Green LEDs, also had 1/4" plug in.
OK, I finally got mine to update to 1.9, I went step by step using the firmware update instructions on this support site, I noticed the instructions said to use a usb port on the back of a desktop computer and not the front usb ports, so I tried that and now I've updated to 1.9.![]()
Thank goodness, I thought it was toast.

Hi all,
I got my to update to 1.9 as well...finally... I tried it on a Windows 7 PC and it worked no problem. Not sure why it kept failing using macbok pro 10.6.8 since that was supported by Monkey.
cheers
Me its the same problem !
i`m STINKSAUER (german for very angry, mad) about line 6 for not solving this problem !!!!!!!!!
this crab is much too expensive for such KINDERGARTEN (poor) SOFTWARE !!!!!!!
shame on line 6 ! They took my money and leave us alone.
noone should buy this anymore !
I`ll bring this crab back to my shop, they can have it !
so disappointed...
I cant update my JTV69 either. I have a full battery with the volume up and I get a red light on the USB hub on the Variax side. The USB cable is plugged into the back of my desktop PC... running Windows XP Pro..
Any suggestions????

Very important!!! LINE 6... ADD THIS TO YOUR INSTRUCTIONS!!!!
You must plug a 1/4 cable into your guitar in order to get 2 green lights on the USB interface.
The other end of the 1/4 cable doesn't have to plug into anything else.
Once I did this... I got two green lights and the update went smooth.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
