How to use Midi-Ox to edit my amp?

Guys, there is just WAY TOO MUCH to learn with Midi-Ox.

Does anyone have a simple way to use it to control the DT-50?

I don't want opinions or half answers. Please give me a difinitive way to use my Windows computer, M-Audio midi device, and Midi-Ox (or some other program) to control my DT-50.

I have to say that the update is pretty much useless without giving us some sort of Edit program and I am very dissapointed in Line 6 for doing this.

Even if I use my mom's iPad it seems I need to buy another device.

I appreciate the upgrade Line 6, but it does nothing for 90% of your customers.

here's the basics: (copied from another thread i responded to)

after you setup your midi interface, pull down the view menu, select sysex
you'll have a command window... type in the midi message you want to send using the midi guides etc...
then pull down file and send.

you can copy and paste that code for others...
save it as a sysx file etc...

it aint pretty, and i'm far from an expert on midi....
but it worked for me...

like i said... i'm not an expert... and i doubt you'll find anyone here that can teach an expert class on the matter (even if they had the time)

  That makes no sense. Like I said. I need step by step instructions and I bet that many other people are in the same boat. You might as well tell me in 100 words or less how to launch the space shuttle.
  
  I'm a smart guy, but I need to start from scratch on this. What does a midi message look like? Can you give me an example?

    when i did it i had help, as you're finding out it's not easy... just trying to point you in the right direction...
    I quickly decided that the touchosc and templates were easier for me, so i went that route...
    so even though i've done it... i'm not a great resource for finer detail.

      Can you post the templates? Anything to get me going.
      
      I'm sure I have the intelligence to figure this out but it's like learning chinese.
      
      I was trying to get a midi dump from the amp so I have a basis that I can then just edit to what I want, but I can't even get that to work.

    This is good but it only sends one midi message at a time. My method programmed every voicing at once. I will try to post my method with an explanation later. I still have not figured out how to stop the process, though. I have to physically disconnect the usb cable while the midi send is in an infinite loop.

        I've tried it, but it won't work for me for some reason. The amp just goes crazy and the commands or whatever just scroll like mad! Am I missing something?

        sounds like you might have the same midi loop type issue that hollis seems to get. No idea, what interface do you use? perhaps we can narrow it down to something common.

        did you get the latest drivers from the m-audio site?, I've used that interface myself without any issues.
        not sure if it would work... but maybe try only connecting to the midi in.

        It worked fine downloading the firmware. I think I actually updated the drivers the day 2.0 came out. I'll give it a try with just using midi in and let ya know how it went.

        OKAY!!!!! I redownloaded the drivers - just to be sure - and hooked up JUST the "midi in" and it works like a champ!!!! I played around a bit and did the factory reset and all works fine. Now I have lots to play and experiment with! Thank you very much! You, too, WardMan!!!!!

        there is some midi routing in midi-ox that may have been causing your issues... glad you have it working anyway!

        Routing was my issue, but once I stumbled across the setting, everything went off without a hitch! Thanks for the vid!!

        Glad it worked for you. I've had my share of problems with the DT25 and MidiOx as well. I had trouble with the firmware upgrade and had to go back to 1.0 to get any sound out of the amp and then try again. I've also had problems when it's been plugged into MidiOx. Honestly, sometimes turning it all off and resetting the amp seems to fix something!
        
        I'm interested in this idea of being able to send more CC messages at a time. I'll experiment with that next. For now, glad the video helped. I've decided that if I blog all the things I'm discovering, I'll be able to go back to the videos to help myself in the coming months when I'm sure to forget some of these things

      Interesting thing is that you capture the messages send to form a Sysex file:
      - first turn on login of Midi-Ox and set it to raw midi;
      - Next send the settings for a certain channel and voicing etc. and check the log file's content. Copy the hex messages in the log file and paste it in the sysex view.
      - You can send the midi data from this window to the DT
      - You can also save the midi data to a file to have preset switching.

        Select File - Log in the Midi-Ox menu and choose Raw Midi Messages in the Log Format.

Don't waste your time with Midi Ox. Go to this thread and get DT Edit and you will never look back...
