What do I need to know about the Dream Stage Rig?

OK, so I have some spare funds coming in over the next couple of months and I have decided after small bit of deliberation and watching Youtube demos etc that I am going to invest in a small Dream Stage Rig

 

Primairly this will be used for live work (small pubs and clubs etc) with my Acoustic duo which consists of myself with aVariax Acoustic 700 and my HD500 and my singer who uses a TC Helicon Voice Live Touch (we will both be playing in Stereo too) although given my nature of work (guitar teacher and Youth Music Worker) I am sure I will be able to use the rig for different set ups and possibly utilise the desk as an Audio Interface for home and location recording too.

 

I'm opting for the M20d (obviously) and 3 X L3t speakers, 2 for FOH sound, 1 as a shared monitor and I'll hook desk and speakers up via L6 Link.

 

At this point I am not interested in the remote control aspect via iPad as I am very much an Android user and don't intend to buy an iPad just for this purpose, although it does puzzle me why there is no Android option as of yet and I do hope that is something being worked on for the future.

 

And so as the title suggest: What do I need to know?

 

I'm looking to folks who already have the rig and have experienced using it at home and live etc and have came across any pitfalls as well as any significant benefits that I should know about before rocking up to a venue for a gig only to end up being very embarrased when a routine problem arises.

 

 

I also have a couple of more direct questions: Given that I'll be using 2 L3t's and no Sub for the FOH, are Speaker Stands a requirement or can they be set on the floor with no major sound issues?

 

I've been looking at several different cases for the M20d, one where you take the top off (that's what she said) and can use the mixer in the bottom of the case and another with a Sloped rack in the case that tilts it towards you.

 

The irony is that the simple case is more expensive on it's own, but when you factor in the cost of the Rackmount kit for the M20d the rack case becomes about £15 more.

 

Money really isn't the issue, especially when it comes to protecting my gear, but I am just curious are there any significant benefits to rackmounting the M20d at all?

 

Any information or insights to using this equipment will be very appreciated.

 

Or is it in fact really a "Dream Rig" with no significant pitfalls where my life will be much better all round for having purchased one? lol

    I'll let others answer with their opinions ... but let me answer this one.

    The answer is "it all depends".  When you put speakers on the floor you will get more low end out of the speakers ... but ... the high frequencies are easily blocked by people of things directly in front of them so the system will likely sound muffled in the back of the room.  That's the trade-off so it will depend on your local situation.  You can add more bass if you need it, but once you lose clarity it's hard to get it back.  You'll just have to see if it is satisfactory in your venues.

      I kind of figured this would be the case although I understand the speakers have a "virtual tilt-back" feature that is only operable with the speaker being used in a backline mode.

       

      Theoretically, If the virtual til-back was able to be selected when in PA mode while placing an L3t on the ground, would this help the high frequencies travel better or would they still get blocked by the front of the audience?

       

      I've got a set of speaker stands looked out to purchase at the same time as the PA anyway so I can at least experiment when I have it all set up.
