iLok & PF2.5 standalone

So, I bought POD Farm 2.5 Platinum on an iLok, and as I later found out, the iLok version cannot run POD Farm in standalone form and only in plugin form (wish that was more clear when I bought it).

 

Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this limitation? Thanks.
