Well this isn't a patch, but I've gotten some banjo-like sounds or of an acoustic by weaving a narrow strip of plastic cool whip lid in and out of the strings right up next to the bridge.  Experiment with other materials and thicknesses to get different levels of choke and timbre.  I would think the same idea would work on an electric.
