No, not ****** at all. Just need a better MIDI connector. Most MIDI conncectors will work with the Line 6 edit but will not allow the completion of an upgrade. Has to do with how much information is going back and forth while you are upgrading and the buffer rate of most MIDI connectors. I had the same issue. Went out and bought a M-Audio UNO and was back up and running in a matter of minutes. If you need an immediate fix Guitar Center has them. If you can wait, check eBay and you can get them much cheaper.

deftim13, Thanx mate all the way from Australia , you would not believe the lack of support here and how little everyone knows, your post saved my Vetta HD from extinction, lol  I followed your prompts and got it running. When I saw those lights flash up I think I was as excited as when I turned it on for the first time..... I have posted a similar version to what you had stated but also added some other facts ... Again Thanx Mate hats off to you chief..

I am having the same problem!
Bought the Vetta II Head a month ago, played once and then decided to do an update.

I did not use the M-Audio UNO, and when the update finished the screen was blank with a few black boxes in the left display window.

I delivered it to the Norwegian service center a few days ago, and they´re gonna look at it, but said it most likely is dead...

I am about to start crying, played the amp ONCE and then it dies on me...

Are you guys sure it´s gonna work with the M-Audio UNO interface?

And if it still doesn´t work, is it possible to by a new mainboard still????

      Please help guys, I´m desperate...!

    Hey bobkinney24,

If your amp is displaying nothing but black boxes on the screen after powering up, you will need to contact a local Line 6 Service Center to have them assess and repair it for you:

If you read his post he only had an issue after trying to upgrade. Mine did the same thing after trying to upgrade with a crappy midi connector. Order the M-Audio UNO and I guarentee it will fix the issue once you try the upgrade with it.

    Hey bobkinney24,

Have you had a chance to follow deftim13's suggestion to retry using a different MIDI-USB interface? If not I would suggest to try that before having the amp serviced at your local service center.

Line6Don - I honestly do think it's pretty lame that you tell this guy to bring his Vetta to a Line 6 authorized repair shop and then he pays $85.00 for NOTHING due to Line 6 not having any parts for his Vetta.

I know also that Line 6 will not pay this customer for wasting his money following your instructions.  I also know that Line 6 has completely washed it's hands of the BEST AMP THEY'VE EVER PRODUCED.  And in conclusion - I think it SHOULD BE REQUIRED that ANY Line 6 official representative KNOW what they are recommending to a customer BEFORE making any recommendation that will cost the customer both time and money for NOTHING.

This is NOT the Line 6 I supported since 2003.  This is NOT the Line 6 that would bend over backwards to HELP it's customers. This downward spiral began around 2006-2007 with the decision to end the Vetta line of amps for more Spider amps, and begin work on the POD HD line along with the DT50 line of all tube amps.

And why in gods name did Line 6 NOT choose to put the Bogner tube amp section into a Vetta BEFORE ending the line's production?  It would have been so simple since it was done in the Spider line.  I honestly think something or someone changed at Line 6 and have decided that profits are the MOST IMPORTANT THING instead of keeping the ingenuity level high and customer support even higher.

It's how the company got to where it is now, so why change like every other small to big thing does??  AOL was fun - it turned to crap decades ago.  eBay was excellent for buying and selling collectible and used stuff to the entire world, AFTER the SERVER CRASH of 1999 (or was that 2000?) it became big business and it's now really horrible and charges for EVERYTHING LITTLE THING.  ...1979...MTV was a GREAT IDEA, but now it's not even what it started out to be and of course it's REALLY BIG TIME CRAP, but it made Madonna famous and helped reality TV become the majority of the current TV programming!

Truly pathetic if this is how the company is going to continue to be handled.  And hostory wil continue to repeat itself even after a famous saying was uttered...Learn from the past so you can prevent the same mistakes in the future. (paraphrased - I don't remember the exact quote)

      Take care,

      Neal Van

    • Hardwire connect to modem if you are wireless
    • Connect to Line6 monkey after connecting cables to Head midi interface, follow prompts.
    • Tilt, angle or play with  contrast knob, If you see faint words follow prompts, pc screen will also have same prompts.
    • After first part of install it will say  “ Press save or turn off and back on “.   All should return to normal .
