Recording sound from Line in and instrument at the same time

I want to record the sound from my bass/guitar and the line-in sound from my drum machine at the same time. Is there any way to do this?

I can hear the both inputs but Audacity does not record the line in. I know there are work arounds (record the drums seperate) but that does not fit all my needs.

Any suggestions?

    Hi,

Unfortunately the ux2 etc. doesn't allow instrument and line at the same time.

One option is to get a transformer or D.I. box to convert the drum machine's line level signal into mic level, and then run the output from that, into the mic in of the ux2 (or whatever device you are using), and then plug your guitar into instrument socket.

Another way to do it would be to get a mixer or something, and get this to change the guitar input to line level and plug the drum machine into the mixer as well and have guitar on one channel and drums on the other. Depends if your drums are stereo or not, because if you needed stereo, then this wouldn't work.

In fact, if you did the above, it would possibly do the same job as the di box/converter - i.e. take the drum line and out put it into a mic output and then plug this into the mic in of the ux2 (or whatever) and guitar into instrument input of ux2. Would depend if the mixer had mic level output or only line level.

    God bless,

    David
