HD500 for home use: FRFR speakers?

I'm coming back to the HD500 but wanting it for kind of a specific application:

1. Home use only; not live; not recording.

2. Want to be able to have each amp in a dual amp patch on its own speaker.

3. A bit of volume is ok (single family house and I'm single) but doesn't need to be super loud.

4. Simple

5. Not too spendy. $1000 range.

So what are some options?

Pair of KRK Rockits? Teh 21 sounds like overkill, right?

Oh and I tend to get tired of wearing the Sennheisers for too long :)

If you're debating monitors, would recommend the Yamaha HS80Ms for that price range. Granted, I haven't heard higher-end stuff like Adams or Focals yet (get to check out Focals soon though).

anything you'd get in that price range would likely be more than satisfactory...
I happily use a 300$ set of behringer truth monitors 1030a, i tend to crosscheck my work on the hd280's and am plenty happy with them. i freely concede that their are bigger and better out there... just giving you my experiences.

Thanks for the options. As for the Rokits, I've been reading that many are happy with them and am leaning that way. Any reason not to get the 8? Or are people with the 8s wishing they'd have just bought the 6s?

  Rokits are known for exaggerating the low end. From what I understand, hip-hop/R&B/electro dudes prefer these for that reason. I guess you need to answer this question by determing what music you intend on primarily mixing and working with. I've got the Yamaha HS50Ms and want to get rid of them pretty badly for the 8s, but I mostly play metal/rock. 5s would be fine for indie/folk/acoustic type of stuff. Don't forget that the Yamaha 8s were designed to be replicas of the famous NS10s too...

My bro-in-law mixes on the 6's and wishes he had the 8's.

    Mackie 824's sound killer fyi... I use these when the amps across the room are outta reach... ; )
    
    Might pick up a pair of used ones off ebay?
    
    But the over all setup might just be a pair of QSC K12's, when you can afford them that is...

      I picked up a pair of Rokit 8s yesterday but I'm not impressed so far. They do seem kind of bass heavy. I'm only using them (or whatever else) for bedroom practice at home and generally don't worry about disturbing anyone. If it's loud enough to disturb people, it's too loud for me at home anyway so I just don't ever get that loud. Anyway, I may have to return them and keep researching.

        several HD500 owners me included use one of those keyboard amps..
        they are quite affordable and good quality, you get also some additional channels for other instruments, voice etc. etc.

        How about two Tech 21 Power Engine 60 amps? They get excellent reviews and are expandle if you go live. $678 total via all the vendors..

        After a few days with the Rokit 8s I'm liking them just fine. I think I'd have been fine with the 6s but the 8s are working out nicely.

There are tons of self powerd speaker options out there. I use Mackie 824 MKII's on Primeacoustic Pads. Killer. I prefer the MKII's to the I's hands down ..... but, the I's are pretty good too.
