  I have the same set up and would like to know what if anything I have to do to get the pedal to control the recording functions.
  
  Wish line 6 would update their compatibility chart to actually show the spider jam.....

    You probably figured it out by now.
    Double press settings button, scroll down to bottom of list: FBV Mode. Press navigation button to get into this, then you can toggle between Normal and Jam Control modes using scroll dial. Display shows how pedal behaves in each mode (Normal: foot buttons correspond to user tones, Jam: start/stop recording etc.).
    So, you need to switch FBV Mode to Jam Control, to control recording functions.
