Conecting the HD500 to the Power Amp side of an Amp

Ok, I have a Peavey Valveking 100 head with a 4x12 cab & in the Peavey Forums they said that you can use the amp as a power amp using the return of the FX Loop. I tried it, is very easy Guitar to POD HD500, then live out from POD HD 500 to the Return FX Loop Of the Valveking 100. It works great!!!, 2 cables with no problems. Now I play Metalcore you know like As i lay Dying & August Burns Red & i use the Rectifier Preamp & i set the (Setup: Output Options) to Power Amp Stack on the HD500.

The question is, Am i hurting the amp or the HD500 in some way?

Am I sacrificing the tone of the amp or the HD500?

Do I have too go back using the 4cm or is it better running the HD500 through an 6L6GC all-tube power amp of the valveking 100?

I tried doing that with my Crate PowerBlock with a 212 Flextone cab & it works the same.

The question is, Do i set the HD500 to Power Amp Combo on the (Setup: Output Options) using the 212 flextone cab?

OK, just want to point out that you have actually asked 4 questions and prefixed 2 of them with "The question is". LOL

I'm assuming you want all four questions answered though so here goes.

No, you are not hurting the amp or the HD500 in anyway. This is one of the most common ways for the HD500's to be used and the "Pre's" are designed for it to be used that way so you get the most authentic tone from the amp sim of the HD500 without colouring the tone with the pre amp of your Valveking.

No, you are not sacrificing the tone of the amp or the HD500, in fact it's one of the best ways to get an authentic sound out of your HD500 short of buying a DT amp.

Only go back to 4CM if want to use your Valvekings pre amp. It's not advisable to run your HD500 amp sims (even in pre mode) through the front of your amp because as  described before, the preamp stage of your Valveking will colour the tone.

There is no right or wrong answer in regards to whether you use Combo or Stack for your 2x12 and the best thing to do would be to experiment with both and decide for yourself which sounds better, though I have a feeling Stack will be the best option.......but I could be wrong.
