I have a question about my attempts to use a POD XT live as a bass preamp. So i start with a POD XT live, with bass upgrade. No issues there, very happy with the tones achieved in my in ears.
I want to use this to drive a power amp, which i have heard about others doing. I want to just plug it into my old power amp to drive a cab. In the past i have been using a bass driver DI (tech 21) to do this and was happy enough with the results. I'm mostly using the ampeg model but i do appreciate the flexibility of switching to GK or SWR to mix it up a bit.
What i find is that the POD output isnt enough to really drive the power amp.
I am currently using the POD, as far as i know, as loud as it goes (master volume full up, "line" mode, no pad, and channel volume all the way up). Am i missing anything?
When i use it with the output mode set to "studio direct" it is considerably louder and does the job, but this doesnt get the best sound - it sounds much better in "stack - power amp" as you would expect... is there anyway to increase the output on the "stack power amp" mode?
I was advised to try balanced leads. I will try this - but i'm not clear on any technical reason this would make a difference?
