Pod Hd500 Power supply cable too short!

Why or why did Line 6 made this power supply cable this short?
Can I purchase a longer length anywhere or do I have to make an extension by myself?
Would there be any problems with interference or other by me trying to make an extra extension?
Yea, I agree plus the fact that they did away with the toggle power switch!
Was it to save money?? We'll probably never know
I'm thinking about getting a black extension cord that will extend this or will have to find/build a male/female extention cord that fits this particular round plug!
Cheaper route is the extension cord...
Extension cord would be easier than extending the current cord.
But a nice, easy mod would be inserting an inline switch on the power cord.
Get a heavy gauge extension cord. What I did was to put the HD500 in an aluminum case (CNB) along with the XDR95 wireless transmitter, the Shure PSM200 P2T, and used a black power strip with a switch along with a 20' heavy gauge extension cord. Manage all the wires with velcro ties and everything is golden. Throw case on floor, remove lid, plug in extension cord and rock on.

That's the way to do it. Mount the HD500 and power supply in a case and run a power cord to it.
Cheers,
Crusty
Unfortunately when the adaptor is plugged on the HD500, the cable will protrude off the confinements of the case, so it must be unplugged off after each time been used. :( I would need to find a angled connector, so that the cable will be facing horizontally, in parallel to the HD500.
There is a little space at the front of the case but this is filled by the padding to protect the HD500.
Has someone managed to overcome this inconvenience? Some photos would be nice!
Thanks
That is not how to do it Crusty...
If we, the users, can easily find the problem on an item, then the maker, after having done many prototypes SHOULD be spotting these points BEFORE the final product is manufactured.
Instead of me (and others) having to buy a power extention, Line 6 should be supplying a ANGLED connector (so that it could be left attached inside the flight case) with a 3 metre long cable. A built-in switch on the HD500 or power adaptor, so I do not have to keep pluging/unpluging the HD500.
How long is either the connector or the socket going to last before it breaks I wonder!
Not only I am going to spend more money on an extension power cable but this is another item to add to the rest of my gear and I can do without it.
I do love the HD500 and I do not regret buying it but it could be a much nicer experience. Well done Line 6... You must have saved £0.20 on each sale with not giving us a longer cable! ![]()
Please do not take it personally Crusty. ![]()

Its too bad we , the makers and the users, live in a money oriented and I want it NOW dominated world. Your black and white world would work out perfect if this wasnt so...
That said, yes Line 6 saved money by not adding a on-off switch and longer cord, and we bought it anyway. Now why in the world would they ever change their ways
if we, the buyer, wont change ours? ![]()
Just wanted to add my voice that I wish a longer cable was available, the supplied one is very short given the intended use.
+1 here to this being an issue for me. No offense, but buying a case, extension cord, and velcro ties, etc. is a cumbersome and expensive way for many of us to solve the problem. First you would think Line6 could address this issue, but in the absence of that, there must be a third party solution. Has anyone investigate that - I will search......
Let us know if you manage to source one.

This post just has some of my thoughts and solution tips regarding the included power suppy cord for the Line 6 HD500...
I absolutely agree that a 6 foot cable is too short. It is a rare venue that 6 feet is sufficient, except a moderately large one, with stage power outlets all over the place.
So what I did was I purchased a 6 foot extension cable similar to this one here available from BixNET.com (priced at $8.95 at the time of this posting.)
6 Ft DC Power Extension Cable with 5.5 x 2.5mm Connector
So now the problem was that I didn't want a "disconnect" to occur during a performance. So what I do in these cases, is I use cable shrink wrap (available at electronics stores) and heat shrink it over the connecting jacks. They will NOT inadvertently separate, and yet if you choose to at a later date, you can easily cut the shrink wrap tubing off, and again have the original two cables "unmarred."
So now I have a 12 foot cable!
When you choose your cable, make sure it has 5.5 x 2.5 mm connectors. I also insisted on the same 16 AWG cable, which incidently is the same gauge of wire utilized in my Line 6 HD500 provided cable.
I chose this solution route because I was not able to find an entirely new transformer cable that had the right specifications (9 volt DC, 2.5 Amp min, with negative center) and a robust 16AWG round cable. If your search is more fruitful, I wouldn't really worry about voiding a Line 6 warrenty with a reputable and properly "spec-matched" transformer cable. On the other hand, you can avoid the whole warranty issue completely for about about $9, and some cheap heat shrink wrap.
Regarding having a switch, I don't mind not having a switch, since bending down to throw a small switch isn't much different than bending down and unplugging a cable. In live situations, with minimal setup time and sound check time, it's also just one more thing to not worry about being set "right." And putting a switch on the plug that is up to 12 feet away doesn't help me much.
I do commend Line 6 for using a new modern "power switching" transformer (as utilized in laptop computers) since they do not heat up and are really lightweight. And while the thing is a huge plug wart, I prefer it over the "transformer in the middle of the power cable" for the following reason: With a transformer not co-located with the electrical outlet jack itself, it means there is the possibility of the transformer "finding" itself on stage laying next to some audio/instrument cables. (I think it is one of the laws of thermodynamics that a transformer will search for, and lay next to an audio/instrument cable.) And even with expensive "monster" cabling, this will generate a hum in the sound system that takes time to isolate and remove. But I've never seen anyone lay audio/instrument cables over or near an electrical outlet. (And while the wart can "see" all the audio cables it so desires, it is stuck there by the plug.)
Take care,
John
Taking a lead from johnlhayes, I've found these solutions, one a right angle adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Right-Angle-Connector-Converter-2-5mm/dp/B004L74PGI/ref=pd_cp_e_0
and this appears to be an "extension cord" if you willl, with a right angle plug and what appears to be a threaded, locking connector to plug into the Line6 cord. On the page, scroll down about 3/4 of the page and it's in the second column. I think I'm going this route and will report back. Free shipping to boot. Sure it's $16.75 but the best solution I've found - item #887 : http://www.cordsplus.com/pages/2.5mm_extension.html
It's 18AWG rather than 16 but a negligible difference I think.
The fact that I can find a right angle solution is big to me. I'm always leery of the straight plug sticking out from the board.
Clarification: the $16.75 I quoted is Canadian $. End result is the cable ends up about $17.50.
Anyway, I got the cable the other day and it's great - seems to be good quality and solves the problem. You do have to tape the connection together though, it's not locking. A few winds of black electrical tape does the trick and this beats the hell out of using an A/C extension cord.
Black electrical tape is not a good idea. When it gets warm, it slips, and your connection is insecure, as well as a gooey mess. Please read my post just above for the optimal solution.
