POD HD500 - unit won't boot up properly

I was creating a new patch in Line 6 Edit when the software crashed. When I rebooted it I got an error message which said it could find any HD patches - it told me to reboot my HD 500 by switching it on an off. When it switched it on I got the Line 6 logo but the unit now goes no further - the logo flashes slowly. I can't reflash the unit as Monkey says it's not connected to my PC. I'm in the middle of a recording session. Is there anything I can do?

Just had the exact same issue with version 2.00 of the edit software and 2.02 of the unit firmware.  The editor crashed right when I was changing patches with the footswitch, and must have been "sync in progress".  The HD500 went to a New Tone in a bank I've never used with a "New Tone (reset)" message.  Absolutely no sound and no way to get it back.  I've tried rebooting with and without USB, just nothing ... gets to the Line6 logo, then cycles between that and a black LCD screen. Haven't rebooted with the left-arrow key yet.  Am I right in thinking I'll lose all my patches?

Utterly ridiculous that a crash in the edit software could hose the unit in this way.

This just happened to my unit.  I can't believe Line 6 would allow such a nasty bug in their hardware.  I had to reset my unit which wiped out ALL my patches.  There are months worth of patches that are now GONE because of this.  What I thought I had backed up via HD Edit a couple weeks ago was not my User Setlist. One night it works, the next it doesn't.  Line 6, please fix this buzz kill.

This just happened to me too. I'd just updated the Flash and Edit software. The Edit program crashed and my HD500 lost all my custom presets. Then it wouldn't restart, the display just flashed 'Line 6'. I rebooted while holding the left arrow down and it started up okay. Luckily I had my presets backed up and was able to reload them. Luckily I wasn't at a gig!!!! This is a major weakness Line 6 - action please!!!

holding down the left key doesn't erase your presets... it erases your setlists names... and returns them to stock...

some people get confused and thinks it erases the tones... it doesn't.

      it resets the global parameters...

many times this issue is because you downloaded a tone that was originally created on a different model... pro/bean/500 whatever...

some of those tones have settings that won't work on other models....

there are probably other reasons as well...

Re: POD HD500 - unit won't boot up properly

Whilst I have never had any crashes that have necessitated a reflash, it does strike me that the firmware is a little sensitive (I was going to say flaky, but that may sound a little more negative than I intend). In the few months I have owned my unit I have had several locks, unexplained reboots, or failures to indentify the hardware via edit.

These have all been resolved in seconds, or merely required a power cycle. (And I should clarify that while I have not felt a reflash / reset was necessary, this has been performed after the firmware update, but I have the same number of ocassional glitches).

I also feel it is most likely related to the USB hook up (my 500 is permenantly attatched to my PC). Still, even though these issues may not manifest in 'standalone' mode, I consider myself lucky I do not gig as I would be a little paranoid.

I follow the forums quite diligently, so I can only imagine that I am in the minority, as few people seem to complain about this type of thing much. That said, on reflection, so many people seem to be very familiar with the reset procedure, I wonder whether its just an accepted part of HD ownership?

I have recently obtained a used, and pretty old non line 6 device that is a similar style of unit, and had no such issues, so from my perspective it is a little bit of a negative against an otherwise great unit.
