M5 - No sound

I am having problems with my M5 recently. First it was the flashing LCD screen, which i could resolve by doing the flash update, but now no sound comes out of it. Bypass only works when I enable True Bypass, otherwise no sound gets through even when it's turned off. When I try the tuner, there is no input signal. I tried the setup, but it says the jacks are ok.

I am not using the original power supply btw, but it used to work fine before. It has more than 500 mA.

I suggest you try it with the proper power supply. It doesn't have to be the official Line 6 product, but it does have to match in ALL respects. Using the wrong power supply typically results (eventually - not necessarily immediately) in exactly the sort of symptoms you describe. Sometimes permanent damage has been done, somtimes things are resolved simply by switching back to the proper supply again.

      You mean the DL4 PSU? I tried that one, but it's not working at all. Either gives me a flashing screen or a humming tone out of the amp.

        it's "universal" and self switching.... so should be the same unit globally with just a different plug attachment to fit your socket.
        
        I'm not certain though...
        but i am certain that it does NOT use an AC adapter.

        Hmmm....the link I provided says it is compatible with the M13 and M9, so I guess I assumed it was also the correct one for the M5 and that the documentation just hadn't been updated. But I see no mention of M5 compatibility in the dc-3-g description either, so I am not sure what to say. I am not near my M5 for the next couple of days so can't check directly, but I have my suspicions about the dc-3-g.
        
        Perhaps someone reading this thread who owns an M5 can look at the power supply that came with it and tell us the product name / number / specifics?

        The M5 needs the DC-3-g power supply (or equivalent third party 9V DC supply). The M9 and M13 use the PX-2. The M5 only runs on DC, and the M9 and M13 only run on AC. The four button stomps will work on either AC or DC.

        I have the M5, but i also have all the others too! so i have all the power supplies for them all....
        i always used the dc3g, without issue... just couldn't rule out the dc1 (was 100% on the DC part though)
        so thanks phil for chiming in.

i am having the same problem too i am using a custom power supply 2000Mah DC power. should i switch to AC ? my line 6 M5 suddenly cant detect any input but all the controls and display are functioning properly. even when i turn the on the tuner it donesn't pickup anything i have 4 guitars and alot of cables that work nothing happens. has this problem been resolved ? what should i do i already lost the original PSU when i moved house.

my 2000Mah power supply powers my line6 M5 with a Boss PS6 harmonizer and klon centaur. the Line6 M5 and the PS6 runs into a looper. all 4 stomp boxes are powered by the 2000Mah power suply i have all are working properly but then the line 6 is connected to the loop no sound comes out even when on tuner mode.

I tried removing all the pedals and just power the m5 and direct to the guitar to amp still no signal is being detected by the M5.

I have a M5 with same problems - no sound come out, excepts when is used in True By Pass mode, but only when the button ON/OFF is OFF - getting only the original DRY guitar sound bypassed. So, no effects comes out, no wet signal! when the mode is in DSP, nothing comes out.
The pedal is not mine, I got it only for repair. The owner used with an 12V supply and after that attempt, the M5 was damaged.
Also the tuner doesn't work, but I fixed that replacing one of the TL072C opamp from the motherboard.
Seems that internal buffers don;t works - I don't have schematics to be sure where are located. I didn't find the wet signal trace either. otherwise voltages are very clear marked on the PCB, I measured and are fine.
I will apreciate if I get an service manual or some tech advices. I received the pedal yesterday, but now I'm stucked on it.

ok i opened up my line 6 M5 and found out what's wrong

it has 2 components broken. shown on these picture i captured and labelled

im not really sure how these things happened lol! but it is the first time i opened this thing up!

is that a transistor ? it has 3 feet and solder mounted to the board. i cannot read the values can someone or someone know what the value of this part is ?

  is an 7805 (voltage regulator). in input you have arround 9V. output 5 V.

ok i found more problems with my line 6 M5. more parts got broken and its a headache lol hope someone can help me identify what the values of these parts are or hope someone can give me a schematic diagram of the M5.

    hi herbert,
    unfortunetelly, all components you mention are unmarked. even when are new, capaciors are unmarked, are labeled only on the package strip. you have to find an service manual - I'm looking also for one. maybe will appears somewhere. I found only for M13, but is not usefull for M5.
    but how you get so many deffective components?
