Shouldn't the JTV-69 work on any amp?

So, I have only used my Variax with the HD500, until yesterday. I didn't have the HD500 available, so I plugged the guitar into a normal (Fender) amp. I pulled the guitar model knob out, it lit up, as it should on a fully-charged battery, but for some reason I didn't get any of the guitar models. I switched to Chime, but didn't get the 12 string, switched to resonator but only go the sound of the nomal magnetic pickups. The only thing that seems to work is the magentic picks and the 5 way tone switch. Is it possible I have a defective guitar? I bought it 6 months ago, and never even bothered to try this guitar outside of using the HD500 hardware.
When you have used the guitar with teh HD500 were you using the VDI connection to power the JTV? If so, and assuming the models workled OK in that setup, then there is nothing wrong with the modeling in the guitar.
I suspect the problem is related to the battery. Are you sure it is fully charged? Try recharging it. A battery that sits idle still discharges, although slowly. If your battery has been sitting outside the charger for some time it may only have enough charge to light up the knob, but not to actually drive the modeling.
Yes, I have always used the VDI connection. I'll try re-charging the battery.
Thanks!
Yup, that's all it was. Got the battery charged up and it worked like a charm.
