l3t volume

Hi,

 

I've recently purchased a m20d and 2 l3t speakers. So far Ive used the setup twice - once indoors and once outdoors. Im loving the desk, but not sure about the speakers. The sound is very clear, but its the volume that I'm having trouble with. The indoor event was in a hall with about 80 people and we had to have the speakers up at 3/4 volume! Previously we used a small 160w laney monitor and never had to push it past 1/3. Surely the 1400w speakers should blow the laney out the water on volume!

 

Whats the general opinion about the overall volume?

Can anyone from line 6 give me some insight?

 

I love the idea of the speakers (inbuilt mixer, l6link etc) but at the moment it looks like they arent going to be loud enough for us.

    You should run the speakers with the level control clicked at the 12 o'lock position and then simply turn up at the mixer.  Where is the output meter running in your current setup?

     

    I would expect to be able to play at "classic rock" levels for about 150-200 people with a pair of speakers if you're not micing the kick drum.  If you are then I would advise adding a pair of subs.

      Hi Dboomer,

       

      I've checked with the guy running the desk and he said he had the main output meter up to 0db. He couldnt remember exactly where the individual channels were, but he wasnt pushing any of them. We used it 'out-of-the-box' i.e. didnt change gain levels and i dont think we used the auto trim feature.

      We'll be using it again this weekend. I'll start by setting the speakers to 12o'clock and work from there.

       

      As you said i would expect speakers this size, quality (and cost!) to easily manage 150-200 venues.

        If you mean up to 0dB on peaks then you are running the system too low.  You can confortably run with peaks up to +15 or so.  I would recommend running auto trim as the system will run with less hiss after you do.  Selecting a preset does set gain to a good average for that type of input, but auto trim automtically dials it it for your mic and your voice/instrument ... custom fit like a tailored suit
