Electronic Drums w/ Toneport UX8 and GarageBand

Hey everyone,

 

I just recently bought the toneport UX8 and I'm loving it for recording guitar and bass, however when I was sold the unit at guitar center, the rep said that I would be able to plug the 1/4 inch cables from my electronic drums straight into the UX8 and record.  It's a shitty kit, rockband pro pads actually, and I dont have any kind of module or drum synthesizer.  Was the guy assuming that I had one to be able to record them in garageband, or is there some way to record that I'm just missing??

    The UX8 is an audio interface, so as long as your 1/4 cables are carrying an audio signal from your drumkit the UX8 should feed the sound to Garageband for recording. But you say you don't have any kind of module or drum synthesizer. Does that mean that your drumkit does not actually produce audio - that perhaps it is just a trigger kit for some gaming module (Playstation, Xbox, ...).? If your rockband pro pads are not sending audio signals (i.e. the actual sound of the associated drums and cymbals) then you are out of luck with this setup.

      Thanks for the quick reply. 

       

      So if I were to purchase a drum module that actually had sounds in it, I would be able to hook the pads up to the UX8 and record?  I don't believe the pads themselves are any different from any electronic drumset

        you'd never hook the pads up... you'd hook the pads to the module and the module would be hooked to the ux8.

         

        you would probably need lots of adapters etc... gaming pads tend to be proprietary as well as have the wrong connections.

        i think you'd end up buying a whole electronic kit... and after that you'd want to record the midi and not the audio anyway bypassing the ux8 entirely...
