Pod hd 500 settings with Dt 25 amp

I know you should use pre- amp only models when tied into the DT amp but should you turn off cabinet models as well? I want to use the direct out from the amp to the house system . What sound is sent from amp direct out? Is it what you hear from the ampp or the amp / cabinet simulated sound from the POD?
I turn off cab simulation - for two reasons, it uses DSP, so not using one gives me more headroom for effects and such, and the other reason is there is no reason to "color" our amp with another amp. It sounds good on its own.
Thanks for the info. I am still confused as to exactly what tone is being sent from the direct out of the amp. Is it what I hear from the amp or some simulated sound that maybe not be what I am hearing direct from the amp ?? I would like to know that what I think I am sending to the house I am.
Thanks for your help.
it's what you hear + mic emulation... so its as if you mic'd the amp on stage, rather than a dry feed.
I believe default Cab simulation is used by the default built-in DT preamps. I only verified what others did before for the 'American Classic' and confirmed (as best as I could to convince myself) that the HD500 Blackface Double Vibrato preamp with default Cab gets you the best match between an HD preamp based sound and a DT preamp based sound.
After the last DT FW update you can select a Mic model for what's sent to the XLR out. Don't know what the DT did before the FW update.
In regard to whether Cab models should be turned on or off you can only guess at what's more 'right'. Certainly whether you like the result is the most important factor. I don't think there is an absolute 'right' for this selection ...and if you really want to speculate one chould consider that the HD500 knows that it is hooked up to DT50 or DT25, i.e., it could 'know' the DT's default Cab tonal characteristics and adjust the Cab model to produce what the modelled Cab does. I am not saying this is what's going on. It's more an example for why 'right' is simply not right ;-). You're better off just picking what you like to hear ...

Thanks everyone. Will give all above a try
On another note can update the firmware for the DT through your Pod or do you need
some other midi interface ?
you need a midi interface
Thanks any suggestion. Cheep is good
my recommendation is to get the m-audio uno for the most reliable and compatible interface...
but i have successfully used one of those 5$ ebay cables... but they don't always work great for everyone...
just a cheap alternative if money is tight, although like i said... results may vary.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
