Volume levels between models?

I'm curious: Is the big volume differences between different amp models on the DT25 intentional? Seems like going from a AC15 to a Twin makes things get much quieter. It's not a huge deal, but I don't understand why it happens.

    The difference in volume between the amp topologies is due mainly to the analogue components in the amp, rather the pre-amp modeling itself, i.e. the NFL, class and mode. Each of these affects how the power / signal is put through the tubes, and therefore the output volume. Obviously the pre-amp gain is also a factor.

     

    It makes sense if you think of this as 4 (or more) different amps in one box, rather than a single amp with different channels.

      So long as it is perfectly normal and to be expected, I can certainly adapt to it. I just found it a little surprising to switch to the Twin and hear the volume drop so sharply. But I don't see it as a drawnack to the amplifier, since I don't switch around all that much, and the two channel volumes allow me to match up volumes between A and B if I like.

       

      I also notice that the amount of drive available on some models isn't all that much. Again, makes sense in the context of modeling. But I have to get my head around the "drive" knob sometimes not doing all *that* much (in the case of the Twin model especially, but others as well, like the PhD Highway (Dr. Z. Route 66).

        Twins don't have a Drive knob in reality...So in the HD model one approach is to dime the channel volume and use the drive as the volume...That's a little more reflective of how a real twin migh be used...

         

        DrZ, the bass control is actually a second gain...At least if my dimentia isn't getting the better of me...

          Is there someplace where this is documented? I didn't see any of it in the manuals.

            Yes, it is documented indirectly for DT only users...Keep in mind that this ability of the DT amps actually having all the amp models in them is a fairly recent thing...At the core of the DT design is the intention to use an HD POD to control it via the system link...So this midi control might not be as high a priority...just a guess...but I am very glad they disclosed that the amps could do this...

             

            control changes display in the interface of an HD POD...Check out section 6-13 in the HD500 advanced manual...There is also the Model Gallery manual that that gives some good background on the actual amps they modeled with photos...That might help get uder it a bit...Would be a nice feature add for that excellent editor a user came up with...

             

            The DT preamp is an HD modeler...albiet, special purpose in terms of there only being reverb for FX...The HD 500 POD manual are probably a good place to get more insight to the HD amp, cab and mic and reverb models you have in your DT and the options you have...

              I've seen the amp gallery, and that's not anything new to me, other than the Line 6 sounds. But the HD500 pages should be handy. Makes sense. Here's hoping Line6 does at least *some* supporting work for V2 firmware in the form of docs. As time goes by, more and more buyers will have come in *expecting* the V2 features. From our perspective, it's not a free gift, but part of what we thought we were paying for in the first place.

    gregs right on... the internals of the amp, and the characteristics of the original amp being modeled are such...
