Line 6 Edit won't start - were the Java issues ever fixed?

Hi there,
Recently bought a new HP PC running Windows 8. Went to plug in my POD XT Live via USB, installed Line 6 Monkey and Line6 Edit on the PC and Line 6 Edit won't even launch. Monkey works fine, all updates are good. Were the Java issues with Line 6 Edit ever solved? Googling reveals old topics and no real solutions and the search function on the Line 6 site & forum were not helpful. I seem to remember that you had to run Java 5, not 6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the body of the 2 exceptions I get trying to launch Line 6 Edit:

not sure what the issue is.... java problems are pretty much not existent these days as they've mostly been fixed....
why not just use gearbox? it's not java based...
Gearbox is no longer supported and was replaced by POD Farm back in 2011, wasn't it?
I just want a graphical interface on my desktop of my XT Live so I can tweak some sounds and have some fun like I used to with Line 6 Edit back on my old PC. i think that old program to roll Java back to 5 was the jrebuster or something? I will look around the forums here for any info on it, like if it works with Windows 8, etc.
Anyone else?
2 different things... gearbox PLUGIN only was discontinued (in favor of pod farm as a plugin)... the gearbox editor is fully supported.
Ah, gotcha.
Strange thing just happened. After installing POD Farm, Line 6 Edit now seems to work. Well, it launches and I can see all of my presets and model packs anyways. Still not hearing any audio, but it's a start.
