DT 25 Has anyone changed their own tubes?

I've got the dreaded, crackle and pop, and volume drops. I called tech support and they said check your tubes. I did and sure enough one of the poweramp tubes sounded out when I tapped it.

Have any of you changed your own tubes without having someone else "bias" them and actually had success?

I always change my own tubes...I have not done my DT25 head yet, but I know it is much easier than the SVs that you have to take the chassis totally out and risk frying yourself...You can get a the test points and the balance pot pretty easily in the head without having to open it...much safer...These things can kill you dead...Not sure if the combo is the same way or not...

  Well I went for it. I went to Guitar Center and bought 2 poweramp and 1 preamp tube(s)- Groove Tubes. No more crackling, hurray! The sound is also noticably spongier/chewier, freakin sweet!
  
  I'll keep my fingers crossed that it stays this way for a long time. I don't plan to have it "biased". Foolish? Maybe...

    What bias values did you set it to? You can have a bit of control of the breakup depending where you set the value in the tolerance range.

        You should probably do it. It should sound better and the tubes will last longer (assuming the bias is actually out).

        Maybe I will, it looks like multi meters don't cost too much.
