JTV 59 Alternate Tuning Issue In Open G

I just purchased a new JTV59 and I have it set up with a HD500 and DT25 amplifier. I'm really happy with all the JTV59--but the open G blues alternate tuning does not sound right. I tried to set up my modify the Reso G alternate tuning per the Variax instructions--and the it appears that the G string is the issue. Is this a known issue? More importantly, is there a fix? I play a number of songs in open G so I'm hoping I can get this resolved.
Thanks,
Jeff
I've not seen others posting about this, the first thing i would do is use monkey and update to the latest version (again if needed)
this will include any fixes.... and sometimes fixes random glitches...
I did update all of the latest versions--but I'll go back and make sure. Thanks for the quick response.
By the way and for reference, the open D tuning is working fine.
sometimes it can take more than one flash... no rhyme or reason... but sometimes flashing again clears up things like this... sometimes you have to flash down to a lower version and then back up....
i'd just give it a couple of tries to see if that resolves the issue.
You need to clarify somewhat what you're experiancing when you say it "does not sound right". There have been people reporting some trouble when it comes to the alt tunings (I don't know what Zap is thinking when he says he hasn't seen people posting about it). Some of them are definitely software glitches that can be fixed with a flash, but there's a couple that can occur even when everything is working perfectly:
1) Simultaneous mags + model
This is one a few people have accidently run into when using the HD500. They'll manage to set things up in the patch so that they're including inputs from both the magnetic pickups and Variax model at the same time. And that's fine... except once you get into alternate tunings. Then you end up with the mags input in standard tuning and the model input in the alt tuning.
However, since you're noticing it on a specific string, it's more likely that it could be the following
2) Sympathetic resonance
I've written about this a couple times, most recently here: http://line6.com/support/message/408008#408008. There's no way around this - unless Line 6 work some mighty impressive voodoo - so the only way handle it is to make sure to employ proper string muting with your palm/fingers when you play (which is good to be doing anyway).

I've not read any posts specifically related to a single string within an open g tuning...
i've seen plenty of people nitpicking other things...
Okay, fair enough.
Just saw your post and I have been using a Variax acoustic patch from Customtones. I'll try a different acoustic patch and advise.
Ok--so I tried numerous patches with no success--and I flashed down and back up to 1.90 with no success either. I put in a support ticket but have not heard anything back yet. Each time I flashed down or up, my open D tuning is fine--but the issue reappears each time in open G. Weird I know--but I really want to get it resolved. I play in open G more frequently than open D.
any other thoughts to resolve?
Issue is now resolved by flashing down and up again--gotta love electronics!![]()
Glad it got resolved! ![]()
