JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

In the past, what sort of time table has there been on updates?

When they announce an update like this, are we usually talking about weeks or months before it releases?
Is it something we should be expecting this quarter?

I wouldn't expect it anytime soon... and normally when they say soon it can mean months....not that i know anything really...

    Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

Of course normally you'd expect a 2.0 release to be a major update over a 1.x release, so I'm expecting a series of 1.9x releases before we get to that

      Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

I don't think they'll be any updates before the 2.0 update... and i also predict that very little will change other than the new HD models... which i further predict will recieve pages and pages worth of love/hate from this forum

... now i'm off to polish my crystal ball....

    Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

Well since it was advertised along with new JTV89F in Musician Friends latest catalog (Feb) I imagine they expected to have it ready to go along with the 89F's release, so I don't think it's going to be a long wait unless some show stopper bug was found.

      Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

Based upon Line6's marketing history, I'd say you are correct.  IMHO, they are notorious for announcing products and "updates" significantly prior to any release date.  I believe the original time between the original Variax and product shipment was about a year, same for the JV Variax.  Pods were a little better though.

I'm surprised, actually shocked, that they aren't charging Variax users for "model packs" to add HD models to the product.  Well, maybe they will, knowing Line6.

I'd take their product declarations (as opposed to realistic availability announcements) with a salt mines worth of salt.

You don't have to look any further than the fact that they didn't demo the new software at NAMM.  And, actually, if things are running behind on development I think it speaks well for Line6 that they didn't.  I'm quite happy with the sounds I'm getting out of v1.9 on my JTV-69(K) and the new firmware will just be iceing on the cake.

A recent guitar magazine had a full page ad for JTV and touted the new HD models and workbench. I don't see the logic of marketing these new features if they are that far away.

        Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

Glitzy, multi-color ad placements are contracted months ahead of time.  When that was purchased last fall, they probably hoped to have the new firmware demoed at NAMM and shipping shortly after.  Clearly development is running late.

But, again, I'm perfectly happy with v1.9 and would prefer they take their time and get it right.

I'm with you. As much as I like freebies, and those coming from L6 are almost always very interesting,
it seems the new update is something major, so I'd rather have them do it right, no matter how long it takes.
In the meantime, I'll be making music with what I have.

            Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

I'm starting to think that the JTV's modeling wasn't much different from the V1's modeling at all. I know they updated the pitch shifting algorithm, but other than that, it seems like a lot of it sounded the same.

I personally think the modeling is already pretty amazing, but why not push it even more further to perfection?

I do think they should do this, because the JTV should be a full update from the previous models, to try to actually progress the sound too, not just the physical and feature aspect.

I hope that the sound is out of this world and that it blows all the other modeler's out of the water. Can't wait to hear some demos.

confirmed. the jtv currently uses the same models as the v1 variax (except the acoustics, i believe)

the new JTV acoustics are considered HD from my understanding... so look for some comparisons... and that's probably along the lines of what you can expect.

like every other line6 update... it won't please everyone i suspect...

but the JTV was worth it for the alt tuning ease... and of course the ability to alt tune the 12 strings which the v1 couldn't do.

                Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

So nothing was different for the modelling (minus pitch shifting algorithms and features) until they updated the acoustics?

Some guy mentioned a Bigsby chime in the Gretch models, and I thought little stuff like that were touch up features before, but I tried it myself on my 600 and it does the same thing I believe.

I do think the JTVs are awesome for the fact that the tunings are seperate. I had to throw out some models to replace them with alt tuning presets, but that doesn't mean I don't want them, not to mention I want my SG, Bass, and Fat Strat models, so it gives you more room in the end.

I do think the 600's neck is better than the JTV 69 though.

I really can't wait for the HD update, and I really hope there's a bunch of new models as well, like real SG models or Jazzmaster models.

                  Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

the modeling is the same, i think that the D/A conversion is a little better in the JTV's kind of like playng a CD in a higher end player... same CD better output.

you do know with firmware 1.7x and earlier you can replace all the models and still get to all the factory models

                  (using a pod)

when you store the variax settings you will see u-models (user) and f-models (factory)

at least it worked that way with the x3, it's been a while and i can't recall if the 500 worked the same way.

I may be imagining this, but didn't the u/f feature go away with a recent Variax firmware update?

    Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

Why are we not getting any official progress updates on here? I decided to look around for any rumours before Musikmesse kicks off, and discovered Line 6 have been responding on 'the gear page'.

    http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?p=15275036#post15275036

It's not exactly earth-shattering news, but it's nice to know they're working hard on it. Seems odd not to fill us in 'at home', so to speak.

It does seem like an odd move to say something on a third-party forum before making a statement on your own.

      Re: JTV 2.0 Firmware Update

Linz, thank you so much for your message and for taking the time and the effort to look around on the progress of the Variax HD updates. I have read some rumours that the update would be in April, so we shall see if it is really so or not. I agree that it is strange that the representatives of Line 6 or people close to the company did not choose this place or at least did not double the message in here for all of us, - the primary audience and the users of Variax technology. I know that some people are just used to "the gear" community and that it feels more like home to them, but what about us...

The important part is that development is still taking place and I hope that it goes well and without barriers. It's a long and windy road, as they say, but from what we have seen so far - Line 6 guys have always nailed it perfectly, in my opinion! Thank you again for this update and let's hope that someone will drop a line or two in here as well.
