JT Variax "stuck" in acoustic model setting?

I'll start by saying I'm fairly new to this whole thing, but I have the Whole Enchilada, as it were--JTV, POD HD500, HDT24 amp--and it's all updated with the most curent firmware, daisychained together correctly, JTV battery fully charged ... for whatever reason, I can't switch models on the guitar. At all. With or without the "dream rig' all connected. I fear that my Variax is toast after less than 60 days. The horror of having to ship the thing somewhere terrifies me. Anyone encountered the same or similar problem? I don't know what to do at this point.

If rather than acoustic, it's a feeble "acoustic-ish" sound, maybe there was some problem while installing JTV's latest firmware, I had some problems upgrading to 1.9 myself.
Have you tried reflashing it?
Did you try the most basic connection? Power the variax with the battery, plug 1/4" to PA or amp and try switching between models? On my 59 you can push the tuning selector in and the model selector turns blue. I can also select different models with the 3 pole switch.
Just an idea, but this could possibly happen if you updated your variax with a specific model in each slot. Long shot, but were you using the guitar editor at all? Also, if you're using HD Pod are you forcing a particular Variax model in your patches? You can check this on the Mixer section in POD HD 500 Edit software. Just some ideas...
