hd 500 3 cable method

im looking to pick up an hd 500 this weekend my only concern is if i can bypass my combo amps preamp all together like in the connection video by line6david....he uses the power amp in jack....im running through a rocktron replitone 212 and i only have the effects send/return and headphone and 2 speaker jacks...so is it possible to do what i want if not then i may have to settle for the digitech rp 1000 cause my buddy has one and we tried it and it works but i would rather have a line 6 cause after my pod i was hooked
the effect return is the same as a power in... and if the digitech worked, than any will work.
not quite sure how you get 3 cables though....
1 to guitar and 1 to effects return should do it.
i thought i still had to have a 3rd cable to go to the amp input
depends on the amp... some do... some don't... and even those that do, i would use just a jack with no wire... AKA dummy plug just to turn it on.
won't really matter since the pre-amp will be bypassed... but would be a bit cleaner than having a dangling cable.
ok so it would be guitar....guitar in and left mono out....effect return and possibly no cable to the front....sry for all the noob stuff but ive never had anything this hitech....im coming from the old way of stomp boxes
no reason to be sorry at all!, you basically knew the deal, all i did was tidy it up a little...
if i hook it up like this i know my amp controls will be bypassed if im correct so will the hd500 havr enough volume to drive my amp good or will there be a big loss in volume...and i will be using the 500 gor all my effects ...dist. amp and cab sims...ect
Got me thinking.... I guess you could do a three cable method
Cable 1: Guitar --> Pod Input
Cable 2: Pod Left 1/4" Out --> Amp FX Return
Cable 3: Pod Right 1/4" Out --> Amp Input
That way, with the signal panned hard left and an amp model selected, one could use amp modelling but with the signal panned hard right and no amp selected one could use ones real preamp.
One would probably set up two patches (one for each scenario) and might need to switch the loop on or off but it might be useful to someone ...
... with that said: if you are new to the pod, just stick to the method that you have been discussing with Zap. I am just thinking aloud here and trying to setup like this while you are finding your way around the PD will be way too confusing and probably not worth the hassle.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
