Pod HD500 for bass?

I'm not your average bass player. I love effects, but require that I can precisely tailor them to my playing style and the music being played. One of the biggest gripes I've had with Line 6's previous offerings was a woeful lack of flexibility and a less than ideal facility for shaping the frequency response of the effects I'd be mixing with my dry bass signal.

It would seem that with the HD500, you now offer something very close to what I require. My question, though, is can the pitch, synth effects and tuner in the HD500 operate down to a bass guitar's low B with gurgling, hiccuping or generally freaking out?

Alternately, are you guys thinking about updating the software of the X3 Pro so that it is as flexible in its effect routing as the HD500?

Honestly, what I'm looking for is something akin to Fractal Audio's AxeFX, but with a bassist's needs considered, too. AxeFX's pitch detector is useless below an E2.

One of my favorite things to do when playing in a power trio is kick in a pitch shifter set one octave up and run it through an amp simulation/distortion as well as a few effects when the guitarist goes on a solo. It would seem that I can now achieve this with one box. Oh, yeah!

Thanks,

jeff

I've used my 5-string Carvin bass with a POD X3Live with great success - even  through a Roland AC90 (at low volume situations of course). I would expect the HD to sound even better IF it had applicable bass amps. The Bassman amp would be an option - but I never considered that a great bass amp, and there don't appear to be any bass speaker options.

Hopefully Line6 will be offering mod packs in the future to include these features. If I knew that would be the case, I would buy and HD immediately. Otherwise I'm a bit reluctant to give up the flexible of the X3Live.

I have noticed the support for Bass effects and modeling is limited.

Is there any future designs coming soon for Bass? I would like to see bass amp modeling for Ampeg, Eden (now Marshall), Trace Elliot, Mesa Boogie Bass, SWR, GK, QSC & the new DAR!

    Line6, don't forget about us Low-End's.. LOL

I messed around with the "fliptop" amp in the hd500 today. Had to try it out with my SX PJ 32" Bass. Worked pretty good. Played it through my PA. I have 15" two way mains and 10" 2 way monitors. (2 way means it has high frequency tweeters in addition to the main speaker). Sounded good. Set the controls to noon. Boost the gain to 60. Volume up. Master up. And you're rocking. And pretty doggone good tone! The fliptop is the Ampeg 100 watt tube amp of old. The B15 as I recall. The HD500 version... sounds like a bass amp. Pretty happy with it.

The newish B15 model is about all we get right now. It's a great classic sound, but I'm having a really hard time dialing in more modern, crisp tones with it. Partly because it was never known for that kind of stuff! Here's to more bass amps in the next update!

Hey Line 6, I too would really appreciate some bass love here.  I have the X3 and I really like it, however the recording glitches were never really worked out and I feel a bit cheated in that department.  I also like to keep my gear modern and up to date.  Please do not neglect your bass people!

On one hand I would love to rant and get all ticked off about the lack of bass support.  In all honesty it does make me angry, but I will stop short and just ask for some support.  Thanks!

Same for me here. I could get modern crisp sounds quiet easily with my X3 live. Couldn't figure it out with the HD 500 firmware 2.1...

As there are more & more people recording all their stuff at home, I guess it means guitar players have to use bass as well. Have Line 6 people ever heard a mix without bass ? There are no substitute to the bass clang.

    Look at

You probably missed that because it's not on the POD HD forums...
