Clean Signal Recording Help!

Hey guys, I've been using my POD x3 to record for a while, and always added a POD Farm tone to it on various DAWs, but I've never been satisfied with the result for as long as I've had the device. I'm starting to think I'm not recording a clean signal the way I'm supposed to.


All I do is turn off the preamp on the POD, making a clean tone, and record that , and then add POD Farm. Is there a specific way to record a clean signal? I hope so, because no matter what I do, my guitars always suffer greatly in the mix.


I am currently using a Mac, so I am now temporarily using Garageband at the moment.

    The X3 supports recording of the clean (dry) signal directly over its usb connection to your recording program. You can listen to the processed (wet signal) while you record the dry signal. When arming the track for recording in your DAW, there will be an option to select the Record Input source. The X3, and its ASIO driver, offer 8 options. Select option number 7 or 8 which identify the dry signal from the Tone 1 and 2 inputs respectively.

      So, you're tellling me that by arming inputs 7 or 8 to record, it'll be a dry signal? And I don't necessarily understand what you said at the end there...

        Yes. Record Input 7 = Tone 1 Dry and Input 8 = Tone 2 Dry. These correspond to the dual-tone capability of the X3, wherein each patch/preset contains two seperately processed tones.

          What's the difference between Tone 1 and Tone 2? Forgive me if I sound like a noob. Also, if I have a mic plugged in through XLR, will input 7 and 8 be dry as well?

           

          So far you've been helpful, I'm just still confused!

            I think the best desription of the Dual Tone capabilities in the Pod X3 is provided in the manual. No real  point in me trying to do it here.

             

            Under the Support tab at the top of this page, select Product Manuals. At the top of the next page select All Products. Then select Effects (left side of the page) and navigate to your particular X3 product. Download the Pod X3 Advanced Guide and read the section describing Dual Tones.

    HI,

    I've gotten a good clean sound for recording my Godin Multiac Nylon through my Pod X3. I'll put an example at the bottom but I use the Variax acoustic model and for the cabinet I use the Jazz clean. I like using the Pod X3 for this as it allows me to put a little bit a compression.
