I had VDI and workbench cable that came with my 600 off of ebay. I know that it can be used to communicate with devices, but I don't get some stuff about it.
I've seen videos where someone only uses a VDI cable. Can the VDI cable be used as an output too?
Does the workbench interface recieve audio or is it just to communicate with workbench?
I don't know if the VDI output is for the JTVs or if it applies to the old Variaxes too.
if you have the one that came with workbench its for communicating with your computer to use workbench to either make ajustments to your guitar program or to download updates for your version of the variax. if you have the other vdi cable both ends will be the same. that one is for use with one of the controllers line 6 makes. they are both communication cable but each has its own function.
I have both. Can the VDI for POD stuff be used for an output, and does it supply power to the variax without the need of a XPS unit? I have an XPS, I'm just wondering if I can take that out of the mix if I had a POD.
yes... you wont need/want the xps if you get a VDI enabled pod.
Very neat.
If I get a POD in the future, then I guess I can use that and a VDI instead of the XPS and a 1/4 TRS.
Could I use a POD as a workbench interface too?
yeah... if you have the pod the workbench interface and XPS become useless...
Nice. Mostly I was looking for the best deal on Ebay when purchasing my guitar, and buying a Variax, POD, and VDI cable seperate would have passed 500 dollars, but I found a 600 model deal for around 450.
I might look into getting a POD HD 500 someday for that stuff, but for now that's just my next dream step. A little off topic, but do you know the noise floor for the POD HD 500 as an audio interface?
Stay in the mix and in the know.
