DT25 dead. Changed fuse, caught fire.

Turned on my DT25 combo yesterday and it died completely a fraction of a second later. No lights, no sound, no glow from tubes. Nothing. My pedalboard on the same power strip works normally. I removed the backcover to check the tubes, they looked fine. Checked the fuse above the powercord inlet which also appeared fine. Tried a new powercord, nothing. It was simply stone cold dead.

Today I found the fuse in the powercord inlet and it was blown. Yay! I jump in my car to get a set of new fuses making sure to bring the old one and the little plastic cover holding it in place. The plastic cover says 1.6w/10A max, so I get a set of slow blow 1A, 2.5A, 5A and 10A. (They come in sets at my local dealer). So I get home and try with one of the 1A fuses, same thing; it turns on then immediately dies. I figure I was unlucky with the fuse so I try another 1A, same thing. Then I decide to try one of the 2.5 fuses. "Whooooosh": the ******* amp catches fire, and blows out a cloud of black smoke ! What the **** is going on ?!?

fuses dying, are usually an indication that something else is wrong...
is certainly worth a try to replace....
i'd take it to a service center especially now, since it appears to be getting dangerous.

That's exactly what happened to me. Well, I didn't try different fuses and catch fire.

Welcome to the Blown Power Transformer Club (most likely). Line 6 please resolve this. We love your amp. We love your service. But it's hard to love when it's dead...; )

Next time, read the silk-screened text next to the power jack that tells you exactly what fuse to use....You put an overrated (2.5A) fuse in your amp...The amp had a problem and the fuse was not rated to protect the amp...That is why it smoked...

If you are on 120VAC, 2A fuse is the correct fuse...This is printed on the back of the amplifer and in the manual also...DT25 head and combo use the same power fuse.

DT-25 IEC Power Fuse

100-120VAC - T2.0AL/250V SLO BLO
220-240VAC - T1.0AL/250V SLO BLO

I´m taking the amp to my dealer sometime this week. Hopefully they can sort it out. As mentioned in my original post I tried with two 1A slow blow fuses. That only resulted in the same behaviour as when it first died, i.e it instantly dies killing the fuse. The little plastic cover which holds the actual fuse also clearly states "max 10A". Pretty confusing.

  that's just the max fuse that the holder recommends for heat...
  most likely this same holder is used on many different electronics.
  not what the amp recommends...
  probably is misleading... but shouldn't been anywhere close to a 10A in there!
  what determines the fuse needed is the electronics behind the fuse really...

  and this is typically a user forum... meaning line6 don't come here regularly....
  if you have concerns, call the number that Tony provided above and speak to them directly.
  
  this user appears to have accidentally tried a fuse that was out of spec...
  certainly not saying that his amp didn't have other issues...
  if you don't deal with electronics frequently, by all means seek out a qualified service center.

Yeah, thanks zap, you are on it. I gotta say I have been overwhelmingly pleased with line6 stuff. Cutting edge always has teething pains. Every electrical gizmo has some chance of peril. I have not had any problems. This seems isolated (?).
