Hi
I think I have ready all other posts but I am unable to write anything to my SD card. OR upgrade the Firmaware?
I have:
also.....When I try to upgrade the firmware it reboots instantaniously and the firmware is the same "DSP2.00 / MCU 1.05"
thanks ![]()
The SD card needs to be formatted as FAT 16. There is an FAQ that tells you how to format the card located here http://www.joesjamblog.com
You should read through it. If you are having the type of trouble your post indicates, it sounds like the card is not formatted correctly. Give it a try and see if it works.
thanks but I formated it using FAT and not FAT32 (which from reading is the FAT 16) and still my 128Mb card and my converted 1Gb MicroSD card was unable to be writen to or Formated within my JM4.
just incase - Ill buy another 2Gb SD card and see......![]()
MicroSD w/adaptor is not supported by the JM4. I don't know if 128mb cards are supported either. I've only used 1GB Kingston cards in mine and they have worked fine.
new 2GB SD card on the way! Hopefuly it will be this.....wish it would say on the manual some more details what is and not upported. ![]()
Hello,
This information is correct - Line 6 does not support 128M cards or mini-card converters. See the following link for more information on updating the JM-4:

New (SanDisk) 2Gb SD card arrived and it still does the same thing:
"SD-Card is Read Only" on any command that tries to write to the card.
Ive also followed the instructions to format a new SD card (with FAT16) and copy the fw.bin firmware to the card for upgrade but on executing this the JM4 reboots after just 1 second with no difference in anything. (can anyone advise how long this should take?)
so can I assume that this JM4 is faulty and what are my options as I think I have no warrenty ? ![]()
Well first I would try upgrrading the firmware by copying it from your computer onto the card and following the instructions for uprading the firmware. Since the card is read only, you should at least be able to do that. After you have upgraded, then I would approach the card reader problem.

Why don't you have a warranty? Did you buy the JM4 used? See if the person you bought it from will take it back.
There is a list of authorized service centers here:
yeah Ive tried upgrading the firmware but as above doesn't seem to accept the fw file on the SD card. any ideas? ive followed all the instructions i think.
also yes bought second hand a few months ago but didnt check for the SD fault. looks like many people are having the same problem with the JM4 reading the SD card.

hi kas
you need pressing SAVE and scrolling down to 'firmware upgrade' for the update to get installed from the SD
once this done, you need formatting the SD card in the JM4 to be able to use it
get the PDF "JM4 Advanced Guide (Rev B) - English" from http://line6.com/support/manuals/ for full details
hope this helps... ![]()
So you formatted the card IN the JM4 and then put the fw.bin file on it and it still does not let you upgrade? Did you try to reboot the JM4 with the card in the slot to do the upgrade. What kind of card did you buy? I have been using a Kingston 1 GB card but I have a couple of Kodak 2 GB cards for my digital camera. I can try them and see if they work.
Also, check out Joe's Jam Blog for tutorials

Beyond that, maybe one of the Line6 guys can help you.
unfortunately my JM4 will not allow me to format from within because it keeps saying "Read Only" ![]()
Yes but can you copy the fw.bin file from your computer onto the card then put the card in the JM4, hold down the save button and let the pedal boot from the card? Make sure the fw.bin file is in the / directory and not in a sub-directory. If the card is read-only in the JM4, you should at least be able to boot from it. You can write the fw.bin file from your computer onto the card.
Sorry, should have been more clear. You have to power the pedal up while holding down the save button with the SD card inserted and the fw.bin file in the / directory of the JM4. Have you tried that yet?
interesting!
yes absolutly, it copies over fine to the SD card but now it hangs with "Insert SD-Card to Upgrade Firmware" when i do this.
Well my friend, I have reached the end of the line as far as what I can suggest to you. It sounds like the card reader is no good.
thanks for all your help ill ring line 6 asap for repair
