Using a small PA as a guitar amp with the UX2??

Hello,

I am trying to think of the best way to set up a home studio but still have some power to get meaty guitar tones. I don't have the money for the amp I want right now so I was thinking of getting a small powered PA to run through the UX2 to my computer. Would this sound ok and what would be the best way to go about doing this? So I would have the amp for the PA speakers, the speakers, the Ux2 (with pod farm for my guitar amp), my guitar, and my computer. Any help would be awesome! Thanks

A small PA or monitor is actually the best way to amplify a toneport. The toneport already simulates a full processed signal so why should you run it through another guitar amp? All you need is clean amplification to reproduce the sound as it is generated.

  I wasn't gong to run it through an amp. I was just asking how it might sound. There is a local music store in my town and the guy said I could take it home and try it. Looks like that's what I'll be doing! Thanks for the answer

    Anybody else have input about this? I plan on getting a Toneport Studio UX2 or UX1 and speakers to use as my recording/music/guitar amp. Studio monitors are too expensive I want the sound of a deeper bigger speaker. So I figured a small PA might sound good. So I would plug my guitar into the UX2, the PA into the UX2, and the UX2 to my PC? That's it?

      If you are relatively serious about your recording's quality then you should be aware that nothing can substitute proper monitors. If you are not much concerned about quality and transparency then pretty much whatever powered monitor/PA/keyboard amp/hi-fi system will do.

        I used the term recording studio loosely, I'll be more clear. Pretty much the only recording I'll be doing on it is with Riffworks for my guitar. The main thing I'll be using it for is a guitar amp. Would the PA speakers be able to give more of a true guitar sound since I could get 10 or 12 inch speakers? For a deeper sound?

        For what is worth, I use a cabinet I built with my toneport UX8. Is 2 12" woofers and 2 tweeters. Very simple. Amplified by a Crate Powerblock. I think it sounds great.

        Thanks, I'll look into that. That would be pretty much a PA anyway wouldn't it? Could I power 12" PA speakers with a Crate power block?

        Or better yet, what do i use to power PA speakers? A mixer, power amp? Pre-amp? I'm new to this sorry...

If you're going to be using them primarily for live use then yes, go with PA Speakers.

Tone is subjective. Again, what sounds good to you may not sound good to me. If you want to use the POD to it's fullest potential, then stick with flat response speakers IE: PA, keyboard amp, etc.
