Line 6 edit not working for me - Java Errors?
-

I have been unsuccessful in getting Line 6 Edit to work. I have downloaded the program twice, and have been present both times to insure that the "recommended" Jave RTE was installed on my computer.
After looking through this forum, I noticed that Line 6 apparently has corrected any problem when using Jave RTE6, which I also installed from the JAVA site in an effort to fix things. This has not corrected my problem. Anyone able to offer an ideas?
When I check my Java properties on my computer, it says I am running build 6.1.blah-blah-blah...should this version not work with Line 6 edit? The Line 6 recommended version (JavaRTE5) is also on my computer. Should I delete JAVA version 6?
When I start the the program, I get the following error message:
An exception was caught.
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError:

I remain hopeful! I want Line 6 edit so as to be able to move the Univibe pedal before the pre-amp on my Flex III!
Go download 3.02...You do need JRE 1.5 installed, but you can have 6 installed also...With 3.0 you must remove JRE 1.6...Still a JRE 1.5 application but at least the fixed Edit to work with parallel JREs which is actually a feature of Java that Line 6 implemented incorrectly in 3.0...
BTW-IF you get tired of Edit, there is an application at VettaVille called TweakWizard...Written in C++ it has no install and requires nothing to get it running under windows...You can have Edit installed also, but you must only use one application at a time because of the commnuication over midi...
Thanks for the precise and coherent answer, Spaceatl. I always enjoy your posts and attention to questions.
I will try version 3.02 when I get a chance, hopefully that will work. If not, I will try Tweakwizard. Funny, I remembered Vettaville as having an editing program but it was not clearly visibly when I looked at their site.
Very useful information, thank you again.
I'm having similar problems... and for me the various replies on this, and similar threads, have left me a little confused.
The Line 6 Downloads site says L6 Edit 3.02 is "compatible with JRE6". I've tried installing 3.02 with on my laptop which already has JRE version 6 update 13 installed and it doesn't work. I get the can't find the runtime environment error. Incidently the readme file that gets installed contains the release notes for a beta version of Edit 3.0, not 3.02, so is the link on the downloads page giving me the wrong file?
Some posts (LoonyBin-Fizzbin) say L6 Edit 3.0 requires JRE5, L6 Edit 3.02 requires JRE 6.
Line6Andy says "Line 6 Edit 3.02 will automatically install Java 5 update 11 to ensure that Line 6 edit will work correctly. Be aware that using an earlier version of Line 6 Edit will not launch if ANY Java Runtime 6 Environment components are installed." So how how can L6 Edit 3.02 be "compatible" with JRE 6 if you have to install JRE 5 to make it work?
I don't really know anything about Java so Final question, is it possible to have two versions of Java installed at the same time, or will letting the L6 Edit installer install Java version 5 trash the previous installation of version 6?
Apologies if these are all questions that have already been answered but frustration is getting the better of me at the moment. I have been able to download and install Monkey and drivers for my Pod XT, backed up my tones, updated the firmware etc all without a hint of a problem. Line 6 Edit on the other hand is a totally different story!

Hi Karavis,
Regarding Spaceatl's answer to my original question, he was right. If you can insure that you are downloading Line 6 Edit version 3.02, it will work with Java 6 already installed on your computer, but you also have to insure that you let the Line 6 download automatically add the Java RTE 5.
I followed Spaceatl's instructions and now I am able to use Line 6 edit. I too have both Java 6 and 5 on my computer now, and there is no conflict.
I know what you mean about the download link - I went to the Line 6 site and originally downloaded what I thought to be the most current version of Line6 edit, but I ended up with version 3.00 which was the root of my original problem. I simply uninstalled that version, had a careful look at the Line 6 site and downloaded version 3.02.
It did feel very frustrating, I know exactly what you are going through, but with the knowledge from this posting you should be able to do it. Feel free to write with any other questions and I will do my best to help.
I installed Java JRE 5 u21 Standard Edition- then I installed the Line 6 edit 3.0.2 and it worked- so you must have JRE5- or at least some of us who are having problems do!- I talked to tech support and they said I shouldnt have to download JRE5 but they said for some reason some people do- for me it worked- so thanks Forum- and Karavis!
Sorry guys but where is the 3.02 version of the line 6 edit? I can't find it. In the downloads is only the 3.01 and below/
Thanks
Hi acg74- here is the current address to get Line 6 Edit version 3.02. It is:
You simply enter in the Line 6 amp/product you are using, then select "Line 6 Edit" as the software you want to download, and then select your proper Windows platform - (I am using Windows XP.) I checked just now, and version 3.02 is the first one that appears when your screen refreshes.
However, I wonder if it depends on which OS of Windows you have? For instance, when I input Windows ME as my computer platform, I only have access to Line6 Edit 2.03. Perhaps it depends on what you are using on your computer? I would be curious to find out...
Good Luck, keep us posted.
Hello
I am having the same problems with Line 6 Edit 3.02 and Java Runtime Environment 6, it just does not work. Obviously the problem has not been solved.
I have tried all the suggestions without success, and find Uninstalled Java RTE 6 reinstalled it sine RTE 5 is no longer available. Line 6 edit latest 3.02 has some problems. It tries to install the Environment but it cannot. By the dates of everyone’s posts it seems obvious Line 6 just does not care?
Let me try to put this in perspective.
Line6 has not released a [promised long ago] update to Edit in over 2.5 yrs. They will not do so now.
The issue is that the application load uses a deprecated java method [in v5] that was removed from the v6 RTE, so it will not work with that, or newer versions.
It is up to us to figure out how to make it work on newer systems - up to the point we can no longer do so.
Like any company, L6 has limited developer resources and has decided to place their development $$ with Monkey and other newer products.
You could try removing v6 and v5 from your machine.. get both versions from sun, re-install and then re-install Edit ?
If you can't get Edit to work, please try TweakWiz... its available from vettaville.nl downloads section and is a C++ app.
Being the author of the original post, I thought I should clarify that I did get Line 6 Edit to work. I believe my posts above are clear in what problems I encountered and how I solved them. I think if you look at the messages above carefully, insure that your are downloading Line 6 Edit version 3.02 (and allow it to download completely the included Java RTE version 5) you should have no problems.
I sincerely hope each of you are able to get the program working for yourselves.
...or try Tweakwiz!

back to your OP..
even with L6 edit working, you cannot move the Univibe pedal before the pre-amp !!!
The effect order is not moveable on the Flex.
Re: Ability to move effect within the effects chain.
I am able to move the Univibe around...I don't have my "Pilot's Manual" in front of me but, as I recall, the Univibe and possibly other effects can be moved around in the effect chain order using the "Pre-Post" knob (or selection ) on Line 6 edit. This is crucial in my opinion, as the Vibe sounds best before any gain or distortion is introduced.
Funny thing, after using Line 6 Edit, I realized (watching the computer screen while I fiddled with the amp controls) that anytime you select Univibe in a newly selected patch it always defaults to the "Pre" position, which Line 6 was correct in positioning. And, although I find the Line 6 Univibe modelling a bit wierd and lacking on all their different amps and pedals, Machine Gun would not sound the same any other way!
OK. I'll give you that.... but pre/post isn't really moving around !
Perhaps I should have clarified what I meant by move around ?
What I meant was the ability to "position" an effect in a location of your choice in the effects chain, like the XTL, X3L and Boss GT series do.
Flex definitely cannot do that.
I cant get it to work. I DL 3.02, and downloaded JAVA newest version and it wont work. Its says "Could not find valid Java Runtime" and then says "Could not init JNILoader"
I remember my last PC used Line6 Edit and I had to run some other program called Javabuster or something like that to get it to work ....but its been 2 years and I dont remember. Any ideas what to do now? I really need to edit my HD147 as we have a show coming up and it awesome to do this on the PC.
Hey,
I had the same problem. Seems the newest version of Java that was available did not register as a Runtime Environment in my program list, it was just appearing as Java Update 6 Version 17. I just went to the SunMicrosystems website and went to the archives and downloaded the last version of Java Runtime Environment that was available. Here is a link to the site https://dct.sun.com/dct/forms/reg_us_0809_225_0.jsp. Fill out the required fields marked with a * and it will send you an e-mail with the link to download JRE 5.0. Install that and your Line 6 Editor should work with your processor/pedal. It worked for me.
Thank you JasonYoung
