Amp vs Line Switch

I created all my tones while having the switch button on AMP (not Line)---and I was using an amp.
But I recently started reherasing going to a PA. I switched to Line and all my patches were clipping like hell/digital screeching.
What do u think is happening and what do u suggest?
thanks!
If you're plugging an XLR cable into a PA, you're most likely going into a mic preamp. Technically, the XLR outs on the X3L are mic level, but I've found they are still loud enough that they don't need much gain applied at the channel strip you're plugging into. It sounds like you either need to turn the gain down at the channel or turn the master volume on the X3L down.
Also, if you're happy with the levels you're getting with the switch set to"amp", there's nothing wrong with simply leaving it that way.
This switch only affects the ouput levels of the 1/4" outputs from the X3. If you're plugging directly from the X3 into a PA you might get better results by using the X3's XLR outputs. In that case the amp/line switch setting is either irrelevant (if you're not using the 1/4" outputs) or should be determined by the equipment the 1/4" outputs are going to (e.g. your amp as an onstage monitor).
That's true. I totally forgot about that point when I answered. The XLR out is only affected by the master volume control (assuming that it's not disabled). So you're correct, if he's not using the XLR outs, he should probably try.
I like to set the Master Volume to control only the ¼ outs so I can use it to set my stage volume without affecting the signal going to the board. But like phil_m said, the XLR outs are not really mic level in this case, I’d say they are somewhere in between mic and line level. I always have problems with sound guys saying the signal it too hot, you would think they could simply turn in input trim on the channel down but some say they can’t. To make my life easier I made an 18dB balanced attenuator and always put it between the POD and the board to keep the sound guys happy.
Im still confused bu the LIVE OUT switch.
I have been testing the dif on my amp......it seems that it sounds louder and the tones a tad less muffled/opaque when on LINE. Up untl now I have been tweaking eveything set to AMP but now Im wondering.....if I should retweak to LINE even though I usually play to an amp....A lot of my sounds sound too loud when I switch to LINE. I wasl also playing around with some of Glen Delaunes patches and they sound good on both, but better on LINE. And I was doibng this on my amp
So now Im more confused....:)
Manual says that the Live out Level......."...when ste to "Live" , thyere ready toi plug into a mixer with line level inputs"
Well, don't let your confusion get the best of you! There's nothing wrong with having the amp/line switch set to line necessarily when going into an amp. You're just sending a hotter signal than you normally would. Some amps actually react well to this. I used to play my POD2.0 through a Fender Vibroverb, and I always thought it sounded better and reacted better with a hotter signal. The thing is that tube preamps actually react well to a hot signal, and you can use that to your benefit. It may add a bit of extra tone colorization to your sound, but if it's a good amp, that may not be a bad thing.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
