New song I've been working on. Took a crack at it today. Not a good vocal day but oh well.
Took all the previous versions down. The latest mix is at the bottom.
mikey1,
I needed to hear that, because something put me in a bad mood 1/2 an hour ago. I'm better now, thank you. The vocals may not be 100% flawless, but I think they are good. I think most of the vocals are very good. Good song! The lead guitar is quite tasty, what's the story on that? Are those real drums?
I worked a little on it and attached the results. Added organ. And since then I've added a peppy horn section during the chorus. Not quite finished with it yet. I'm also fighting over background harmonizing it. I keep hearing all these funny responses that are of course, funnier when sung in harmony. At least to me.
It's a Takamine acoustic, Strat, Peavey bass strait into an Aphex 207 D tube preamp. All the guitars were direct and clean. All the effects are Podfarm. On the solo I automated the delay to decrease on the second part and I liked the little electronic-y thing it did so I kept it. The amount of recordable automation you have with Podfarm is awesome. You can really fine tune. Almost to a fault. I only played the progression one time through on each instrument and looped it. I love computers.
The drums are Beta Monkey.
mikey,
I wondered what that electronic-y thing was: now it makes sense, I like the sound also. Even though I am notorious for using lots of effects, I like the first version of the song better than the second version & third version (too much effects for even me!). Everytime you posted the song, the file size got smaller. I noticed the fidelity of #3 is worse than #2. Is all that swirling effect from the organ or ?
Yea, I'm farting around with effects. Also, I rendered at a much lower sample rate. Probably some mp3 warble . The B3 has some pretty agressive Leslie too
Not quite sure what to do with this one. Even the lyrics are just place holders untill I think of something clever. I need something to zip the chorus along.
Here it is with horn section.
Wow this is too good Mike. I couldn't even begin to put a song like this together.
Remember those vocals I was trying to avoid.... here they are.
mikey won,
There you go! That latest mix is by far the best of the bunch! Glad you lost the swirling effect. You now are the one & only song in my iTunes jukebox (I finally got a new iMac after quacking about it for years).![]()
I'm buying a Mac and Protools HD system this weekend. Even though I know nothing about either platform. Too good a deal to pass up. I recently lost a gig because I dont use PT so I thought I'd better get it. I'm so ashamed. ![]()
mikey,
No need to feel ashamed...once you become a Mac owner. ![]()
No insurance quotes to protect your vocals please
They are excellent so stop it ![]()
Mix wise they are sitting up front a bit too much in places and maybe could do with a little sparkle better top end EQ or an Enhancer. You could try the old reverb trick of a little bright reverb but with a long pre-delay that matches the bpm. That way the vocals still sit up front but have some more body and sparkle to them as the tails die.The whole mix is a little lacking in Top-end clarity to my ears.
Great arranging and performance ![]()
Stay in the mix and in the know.
