No, I have 12 indents. It's just that the first two both select the same model group (according to workbench). I think I'm going to try the recalibration procedure suggested in the first reply. Thanks for your help.

I tried a few of the things that were suggested (contact cleaner, reflash) and still have the problem. I tried the recalibration, BUT, I do not yet own an external powersupply/footswitch. So I tried to follow the recalibration procedure but by powering on and off with the batteries (i.e., pushing a standard 1/4" jack into the guitar to power-up; pulling it out to power down). This didn't work--I didn't hear the beep sequence that the procedure said I would when the guitar initializes. So I ordered a power supply/footswitch from Sweetwater and will try the re-calibration again when I receive that. Does anyone know where the beep sequence that I am supposed to hear comes from? Do I have to connect the guitar to an amp so I can hear the beeps through the amp? And when the procedure says "Pull model selector to 'up' position (set to Custom 1)" does that mean to pull the selector knob out in addition to setting it to Custom1?

Thanks all for following along. I promise to report back when I get the powersupply/footswitch and retry recalibration, and will close when I finally fix the problem. Meanwhile I still have the problem that the first two notches on the model group selector knob (CUSTOM1 and T-MODEL) both point to T-MODEL and the knob is starting to act a little flaky--periodically I'll switch to a setting on CUSTOM2 (Open E tuning) and it doesn't get it right at first. I'll have to switch the knob back and forth a couple of times before the guitar actually switches.
