let me guess.................your running windows vista 64 bit................ theres no driver for usb . i have the same problem. this is getting to be a very large club. quite frankly line 6 doesnt give a crap about this problem.
they have no plans to do anything about it. thats from the company.
your only option is to buy a piece of line 6 equipment that has a 64 bit driver for usb and work through that . so it will cost you another few hundred to make contact with your guitar. they should atleast make good on the useless workbench you bought. but thats not gonna happen either.
i cant understand why it wont work with 32 bi ( im assuming vista) mine worked fine with that. try disconnecting all other usb devices on that computer. also try each usb port.

When my main laptop did not work & I read about the 64 bit problem, I loaded everything onto my "old" desktop with 32 bit Windows XP & the same thing happened. Service pack 3 doesn't make 32 bit into 64 bit does it? Forgive me as I am almost a luddite but it would seem that my 5 year old Dell Dimention 8250 which works fine with guitarport, etc. should be able to do the trick. I just want to tweak my much beloved variax 700 acoustic with the secret tunings that David Crosby borrowed from Joni Mitchell.........
One more question while I am asking........can this guitar be set up for "Nashville Tuning"???? I HATE having to program tunings with the buttons on the guitar!!!!
Thank you so much for responding....I really appreciate the suggestions & help.

Both my computers are running XP...how do I tell if they are 32 or 64 bit? What piece of gear from Line 6 will solve the problem? Thanks again!!!

as i remember you have to setup and run line6 monkey to get it to run. its been a while. also if your pod has usb you should be able to connect through it to the guitar and run workbench. what id do is to pring out the instructions that way you can refer to each step on paper as yuo go through setting up. i do remember having trouble in the beginning then finaly figured out it had something to do with running the monkey software.
it was very agrivating but once running it worked flawlesly. as to xp running in 64 bit no it wont change over with any update.

When I get my chores done on the farm, I will try to interface my Pod with the variax usb interface (any suggestions?). I can't tell you how much I appreciate your taking the time to help me!!!
Any thoughts on if the variax can handle "Nashville Tuning"? What a great thing that could be. Wonder why they don't just go ahead & include that instead of some of the other (useless?) choices on the knob. I can't wait to put my favorite tunings into my favorite guitars!!! The only problem I have had with my variax was the bridge started pulling up on my first one & in the hot Florida summers I sweat like a pig & the saltwater flows into the bridge contacts....this is baaaad!
Thanks again!!!

PS: I am kinda perplexed why Line 6 won't address the 64 bit issue & the other issues that folks seem to be having. I feel like they owe me since I have been so loyal & bought so much of their stuff ($1000s). In these times a company can choose to be milk or cream.....howz about it Line 6?????

you should be able to change the tunings in every guitar once you have it connected. i guess they were trying to make veeryone happy when they did the program. you can always use a bit of contact cleaner then dustoff to keep everything nice and clean contact wise
ive probably said this too many times but here goes..... they probably dont address this issue because it forces anyone who needs to do programming to buy another piece of hardware. mor dough in the kitty. they dont care if your ****** off as long as you keep buying. thats it in a nut shell.
let me know how it comes out.

If you're using the usb module that came with workbench, it should have two lights...one for each side (input and output). Is the one going to the computer green? If so, it sounds like you're set and it has nothing to do with 32 or 64 bit. The flashing red means it isn't recognizing the guitar side. This happens if you don't had it powered (batteries or AC). I don't have a 700 acoustic, so I'm not familiar with what it comes with. The electric versions come with a pedal that will power the guitar as long as you're using the right kind of cable to plug it in with. When I've had that blinking red light problem, it was because I was plugging the guitar in with no batteries and not plugging the cord in from the pedal. In other words, I was just plugging in the digital cable connected to the USB unit, so the guitar had no power.
I'm not sure if that's your problem, but it's something to look at.

My VAX Acoustic will not connect to workbench on batteries. I have to connect the power supply with the TRS cable and then it works fine.
