Hey man,
How do I use an A/B/Y box to do this? I don't see it. It looks like the problem will remain because you can't A/B'd the signal so you can choose to go into the Input jack or the Poweramp jack, since the Poweramp always overrides the Input if there are cables connected to both of them.
I have several custom made routing switches that allow me to do what an A/B/Y does and more, but the problem here is what happens when I plug something into the Poweramp jack of the Spider Valve (even if it doesn’t have a signal coming through it).
When I do so, it makes it impossible to use the SV’s preamp which has all the modeling section because it cuts/disconnects the Preamp section (it tries to send it out through the Preamp Out jack) and that’s a waste (unless I use a 4 cables method, but that’s also limiting because I can’t use the amp sims from the Pod or I’ll be stacking two preamps).
It is quite a dilemma!... But it seems to me that it is not a routing dilemma but a moding one because the Spider Valve just does that when there's something connected to its Poweramp jack.
Maybe I'm just not explaining this correctly!

It (the SV) doesn't "really" disconnect the Pre-amp to Power Amp connection when you use/Plug into the Power Amp in! But re-routes it (The Pre-Amp signal) to the Pre-Amp out on the SV, this is because it´s a series Loop and not a Parallel effects loop! Which is a good thing, IMO. Have you ever used a Parallel effects loop? Especially with Volume pedals, Compression, Pitch based effects...But of course this is personal preference as well.
So now you need to grab the signal at the "Pre-Amp" Out. and switch or Mix this with your other schemes prior to returning it to the Power amp in on the SV.
Remember that the loop is Line level! So maybe something along the lines of the LS-2 would be practical, this combined with an ABY Box to keep all your Line level separate from your Amp/instrument level gear. Then adjust the level pre-Power amp in!

Guitar to A/B/Y switch to inputs on SV and X3, SV FX send and X3 out to small mixer to power amp in on SV and or whatever amp or house system.
