Line 6 Spider Valve 112  XLR Direct Out to record with Cubase

I am new to home recording and need some help!

I have a Line 6 Spider Valve 112

I purchased an XLR cable to run from the XLR direct out on the back of the Amp to a Tascam US-144, the Tascam US-144 has a usb cord which runs to my PC.

I installed Cubase and the Tascam software and when I open a new project and add a new Audio track I have a problem.  The display lights on the Tascam light up indicating some sort of signal is coming in from the Amp but nothing records on Cubase.

What am I doing wrong?

How should I set up the Tascam and Cubase track?

Thanks!

************ I have seen input but then nothing recorded in the past.

I have not used that amp or the Tascam gear you mentioned, and I am not sure what version of Cubase you are running ( I am assuming something modern like SX3 or 4 and not some older one) but from what I have found in the past using Cubase when I ran into this:

You can go into Cubase Options/Preferences/Or something named similar and then select what devices Cubase should recognize as ASIO/MIDI/VST/etc recording inputs. I am also wondering if your specific device shows up in the left field in the main screen when recording that specific track. When you start a new track on the left side of the screen (when that track is highlighted) you cen tell that track where to take it's input from. Maybe you hafve already done this and still no results.

************I have also accidentally had tracks muted in the mixer after it appeared there was input that was recorded. I think the mixer is one of the F keys to show/hide it.

Without seeing some screen shots might be hard to diagnose.
