Bedroom Amp Choices

I'm currently using a Toneport UX1 for all my guitar needs but my crappy PC speakers aren't cutting it for me when I want to play for other people. I'd like to buy an amp for bedroom use only but i'm confused by the choice available.
Could you give me a few suggestions on what models I should be looking at as i'm a total novice when it comes to amps. If money was no problem would you go for the Vetta or would that be total overkill? I'd like to buy something nice, not just something that will do the job for now. Would I be better off buying some decent speakers/monitors for my PC?
Well, are you looking for something that has built in effects that will actually serve as somewhat of a replacement for your Toneport, or are looking for simply a small amp that sounds good at lower volumes? If you're looking for the first, I'd look into one of the Line 6 modeling amps - perhaps a used Flextone III or one of the new Spiders. If you want something along the lines of the second, there a lot of good sounding low wattage tube amps on the market right now for reasonable prices. The Blackstar HT-5 is a nice two channel amp, and the Blackheart Little Giant is pretty cool. It really depends on what you're looking for.
I never got into the Bedroom Amp scene! Because even that is too loud, so my logic dictates that either I am not heard or I am heard! (Think Shakespears)
So to not be heard Headphones are the best way to practice with! Simple and no extra expense, unless you need to buy headphones? PC using Gearbox... Great IMO!
But if you want to be Mobile then you will need something battery powered, as well as it having headphones as an option! Pocket Pod, Micro BR....
And if you want to be heard? Then this is the easiest option to accomodate! Spider Amp! SV is good!
But Line 6 also has a small "Practice" amp too! But IMO it will be heard! LOL (Unless you use Headphones, but it cheaper to use Gearbox)

Depends how large your bedroom is. ![]()
Yes, total overkill. Check out the Blackstar HT-5 amps. Nice little bedroom amps. Or even the Marshall Haze series. You can get decent bedroom tone with either. If you want effects, maybe the Peavey Vypyr (non-tube)?
i like the idea of buying better speakers/monitors but it does tie you to the computer and doesn't cover the possibility of a jam session at a friend's house. i ended up with a Micro Spider which is great for low-volume playing--i'm o.k. with just enough volume to fairly well mask the acoustic string sounds because it's hard to shred when it sounds like Chet Atkins. i also have a toneport GX which wanders between studio and the t.v. room into a laptop. i mention this because the GX sounds really good running into the mp3 input on the Micro Spider--it's essentially a Vetta Micro after all
--works great with any pc-based backing tracks that you may want to play along to as well. so, consider a Spider of some size (depending on what you consider acceptable bedroom volume) and make sure you have a cable that you could run between the UX1 for more sophisticated tone shaping. the larger Spiders have the artist preset library which, for some, might be a reason to go a little larger.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
