Variax Ethernet Connection

I have a problem with the connector in the guitar. The plastic that holds the jack to the body of the guitar cracked and broke, so the jack floats inside. Because of this, I think, everyonce in a while the guitar will cut out and will not be seen by the podxt. I unscrewed the connector on the guitar and tapped the jack where it was broke to help make it more solid. It worked great for a day and then it started cutting out again. Is there any way I can get hold of the jack and the little circuit board that it connects to? It's out of waranty and I'm technically inclined enough to replace these parts. Thanks
I'm not 100% clear which part is broken sorry - I think you probably mean the socket on the guitar. Is it the Ethernet jack socket in the guitar or the Ethernet jack plug on the end of the VDI lead? The latter is easily fixed with an RJ-45 cable end which are available for between 16p and 30p (£0.16 GBP to £0.30 GBP) each and a crimping tool (about £10 GBP) - wiring is exactly the same as a standard straight through Ethernet computer network cable NOT CROSSOVER and you simply use the existing Neutrik housing. Remember to snap the little 'nadger' that would normally retain the plug in a network wall socket off the plug before you slip it back into the Neutrik housing.
If the broken part is in the guitar you would probably be better contacting Line 6 who *may* be prepared to sell you the required part. I haven't checked inside my Variax as so far I've had no need to do so, but you may be able to effect a suitable tempoary or permanent repair using some epoxy glue or a heat gun to hold the broken part in the correct position. Sometimes RJ-45 sockets are 'snap-in' parts that clip into a housing. I'm sure with a little patience and ingenuity you can make a pretty good repair for at least the short term.
You don't say which Variax you have. The RJ-45 jack mountings have different designs although electrically as far as connecting with the outside world goes they are effectively the same. If you're really desperate You might even be able to get a network jack socket from an old computer network card or from a network wall plate and as long as you're very careful and you get the electrical connections to the correct pins it should work, but this would be the absolute last resort solution. I'm sure Line 6 will be able to suggest something more appropriate if you call them.

Thanks for the reply. The part that is broken is inside the guitar. I've removed the housing and seen that there were 2 or 3 screws that secured the jack in place. I did tape it up like crazy and its secure but after 20 minutes of playing the guitar will go "offline" according to the podxt live (the little led light turns off when there isn't a connection) and the audio stops playing. Which makes me wonder if the card that is attached to the ethernet jack might be damaged....Idk.. I should try going through batteries to see if it still does the same thing to verify if its the output of the guitar. I'm using a variax 300... Hell I'm having problems with my spider valve as well, the amp modes switch auomatically... I don't know if it's my luck or just line 6 products... I love em and hate em. lol
Ah OK. The only thing you can do with what you have other than replace it is to glue it with some strong glue like Araldite which is a two part epoxy resin based glue (other brands exist). Mix the glue - apply it sparingly because it will ooze out everywhere as you squeeze the two surfaces together and it's very sticky and hard to remove even before it's set - secure in place - leave to set for several hours in a warm room (I'd say a day should allow it to cure well enough) - NOTE There is a 'rapid' version of this type of glue which will set in about 10 minutes, but I'd still recommend leaving it a day or so before applying any serious pressure to it. See AMX's reply too as he's found a reference to the part you need and that is the better option obviously.
Re: the SV problem - this sort of thing is fairly common in terms of drive and EQ settings changing and it's usually due to vibration moving the pots, so the recommended cure is to use your presets and to park all the pots (except Master Vol) at zero when playing at volume. It's not so common with the amp modes themselves changing, but you could try parking the controls to see if that improves it for you - if not it means a trip (for the amp) back to a service centre I'm afraid as something is either physically loose or electronically amiss
