How do I uninstall Audio-midi control panel?

I started this query a couple of weeks ago because I couldn't get any sound via my pod xt or KB37 from any program on my computer until I had started Monkey. I got ill last week and couldn't get to my computer so Line 6 marked it as answered after a couple of days
.....so here goes.
I bought a new Dell Studio 1557 specifically for recording (no laughing at the back there). It came with windows 64 bit Vista SP2..(waits for howls of derision to stop). I have since ordered a free Windows 7 upgrade and now feel I am digging an even bigger hole. It's quite high spec and has the fast hard drive (7200) etc.
Anyroads, when I first installed the xt drivers, KB37 drivers, pocket pod software, Gearbox, Pod Farm, Monkey and music software (Cubase SX2, Reaper 64 bit trial, Guitar Pro), I could get no sound in or out of whatever device was connected (xt or KB37). I have no other USB devices attached, not even a mouse or keyboard.
When I played a file in the music software programs (or Windows Media, web browser etc), I couldn't hear anything although the transport panel cursor was moving.
When I opened Monkey however, everything worked, until I opened another project.
I uninstalled everything.
I installed my music software programs one at a time, tested then uninstalled them. This was without any Line 6 stuff installed.
They all performed fine using the default sound. I uninstalled everything (or so I thought)
I checked Windows media and youtube to see if I got sound from the computer. I did. I then plugged the xt in via USB (no drivers loaded). Predictably, the onboard sound ruled supreme through speakers and headphones.
Now I loaded JUST the xt drivers, nothing else. Windows found and installed the drivers, and the device. The pod is fully up to date with regard to flash, drivers etc. and connected to a 15W marshall practice stack via the Left Output. This has always worked no problem.
I checked pod xt (2 Speakers) came up in my options dialog box, which indeed they did, and were selected by default. Yippee. Device working properly etc, check.
No sound.
I looked in Control Panel (Windows), and lo, there was the Audio-midi control panel still there. It wasn't uninstalled via the Line 6 Uninstaller and there was no option in Add/Remove Programs to uninstall. Still, I opened it, changed the default rate to 24, clicked Apply and the sound came on! Through my amp.
I closed everything down, waited a while, opened windows media, started a track - no sound.
I opened Line 6 Audio-midi control panel, it had reverted to 16 bit, pulled down the menu again to 24, then changed it back to 16, clicked Apply - sound happened.
So to sum up..I get no sound via my pod xt until I open Line 6 Audio-midi control panel, then I just need to do something (anything) and the sound comes on.
I can't troubleshoot anything anymore because I cannot remove Line 6 Audio-midi control panel, there is no option anywhere.
I believe this to be the root cause of my trouble, but I can't do anything about it.
Help, please.
Update - I downloaded and installed Gearbox Version 3.70. I also installed the drivers for the xt and KB37.
Now if i try to play a track in windows media, nothing is heard until I open Windows Control Panel then double click the Line 6 Audio-midi control panel. As soon as I do this, the sound comes out through the xt.
Audio midi control panel is version 3.3 4, driver version 3.4.2.9
wow, that's a strange one.
i know in the past that the installer hasn't fully worked for me when the hardware was connected, so how's about trying to reinstall again, then connect your hardware. then disonnect the hardware, restart, then uninstall everything, then restart again.
is the control panel app still there?
Rowbi,
Thanks for your reply. I'm sure you'll appreciate I have tried every combination, sequence and chanted every mantra there is, but I thought I'd try yours again.
I loaded the latest version of Gearbox and the drivers for the XT and the KB37. No sound comes out my amp until I open Windows Control Panel, then double click line 6 Audio-midi control panel.
When this is double clicked the app I'm trying to use (Gearbox, Windows Media etc) works i.e. sound comes out my amp via the pod, and I can use the tuner etc with the guitar.
As soon as I change application the bloody thing stops making any noise until I double click the Line 6 Audio-midi control panel again. This is seriously wearing my faith in Line 6. I've spent quite a lot on their stuff over the years, but this is trying my patience too far.
I unplugged, uninstalled, restarted, and thee Line 6 Audio-midi control panel is still there.
Thing is, if I want to use and Line 6 software for recording, I'll still need this - and it doesn't work.
I have tried disabling the on board sound managers. No difference.
Anybody any ideas? Know any good witch doctors?
Hi,
Just came across this thread... if you unplug your KB37; go to Start/All Programs/Line 6/Tools/Line 6 Uninstaller.
It should be an uninstall Wizard; one of the screens should prompt you to select all components you wish to uninstall/remove.
Did you remember going through this? I need to ask just to get a better understanding of what you did and didn't do in terms of specifics. Let us know. Sorry about you having an issue. We'll try our best to understand what you're experiencing and offer you advice if you get back to us with your answer(s). Thanks.

Hello there, thanks for replying.
I dusted off the computer again tonight (it languishes unloved in a dark corner), and had another look. The last time I used it there was nothing but the drivers for the pod XT and the KB37 loaded, and of course the AM control panel. The AM control panel, when opened, could not recognise any device. Hmmm. I downloaded the latest drivers V3.4.3.8 for the XT and the KB37.
Now with nothing else on the computer I had Cubase SX2, the drivers for the XT and KB37 (no monkey or any other line 6 software), no mouse or keyboard.
I connected the XT USB, windows found it - ready to use etc. I opened Media player and clicked on a track. The cursor moved but there was no sound. I opened Windows Control Panel, double clicked Line 6 AM panel and sound came out my amp. I stopped the track and clicked another. No sound, double click on Line 6 AM panel - sound again.
I disconnected the XT and connected the KB37 with headphones. Windows found it. I opened media player and repeated the above with the same result. The only difference being it was more of a hit and miss affair when I clicked the Line 6 AM panel - sometimes I got sound, sometimes I didn't.
Next I closed Media player, disconnected the KB37 and connected the XT and opened CubaseSX. I looked in the VST Multitrack box and both the XT and KB37 ASIO input/outputs were listed, I chose the XT, clicked Apply, opened a project. There was no sound until I opened Control panel etc. - you get the idea. I closed one project, opened another with the same results. In the XT sound configuration dialog box the ASIO client was listed as cubase.exe.
I closed Cubase, unplugged the XT, connected the KB37, opened Cubase, configured the ASIO for the KB37, opened a project and got no sound until I opened control panel and double clicked on the Line 6 AM panel, then I got sound. Again, when I opened a different project I had to repeat the procedure.
In the Line 6 programs folder there in an uninstaller which allows me to uninstall only the XT and KB37 drivers. Not the AM control panel. When I saw this earlier (a couple of weeks ago) I tried to uninstall Line 6 AM panel fro add/remove programs but there was no option. At this point I loaded the latest Gearbox in the hope it would get "picked up" then uninstalled, but to no avail - Gearbox uninstalled leaving the AM panel behind.
In the past I have had loaded Gearbox, Pod Farm, Vyzex Pocket Pod software and the drivers for the XT and the KB37 and Monkey. In all cases involving any program (Cubase, Reaper, Guitar Pro etc) I found I got no sound until I opened Monkey, so I thought Monkey was the problem, but now I have no Monkey, so to speak, but I still have the AM control panel which exhibits the same behaviour i.e. no sound unless it's double clicked. One thing I noticed is once when I double clicked the Line 6 AM panel it stated it may not have installed properly and 'Do I want to run it as if an earlier version of windows was running'.
The laptop is a Dell Studio 1557 with more than enough power to run and record (or so I thought). It is new and has only had what I have listed installed. I am running Windows Vista 64 bit SP2. I had previously run all my gear on a very low spec laptop running vista 32 bit with no problems.
I have tried rolling back to SP1 but the results were the same. I am waiting on a free upgrade to Windows 7 but I dont think that will resolve anything.
I have also previously tried uninstalling everything and defragging the drive then doing a clean install - many times. I have also tried switching the machine off then on again.![]()
Sorry for going on but I reckon the more info you have the better chance you have of helping me.
Cheers
Hi,
Thanks for providing all the details in your reply. I'm really not sure what the root cause on this particular computer is. The only tool we have available is the Uninstaller applet. If you can't uninstall all of the components using this method, there's something deeper on your operating system/software install history that's giving you trouble.
You could also try running a Windows System Restore on the OS; choose a point in time as early as possible in the registry as an attempt to revert your OS to an earlier point in it's installation history.
Beyond this, I don't know what else to offer other than a backup, reformat and reinstall of your OS. Then, make sure you carefully install only the programs you plan to use... and make sure you grab the latest software installers from the manufacturer's sites.
Sorry about the inconvenience you've been experiencing.

L6Perry
