Recording dry into DAW whilst hearing the wet? POD HD 500

Hey guys, I've had a little bit of trouble with this and wasn't able to find any patches or indepth support on how to go about this.

First things first, I want to say to the folks at Line 6 well done for making a decent product, however, there are a few complications.

I enjoy writing metal, a lot of hi-gain stuff, but I feel the HD500 doesn't cut it as well as I hoped it would have. As a result, I'm a little dissapointed, but nonetheless it provides a basic starting point in recording. I've seen people talk about dual-tones, but how would I actually do this?

I have a few patches which I'm relatively okay with, but I was hoping (Like what I've seen on POD Farm), is there a way to either be able to bypass the effects imlpemented on the patch so it records dry BUT still allows you to hear the wet, without compromising the feel of what you're playing? I mean let's be honest, recording a heavy track without the real chugga and riffing behind it kind of takes the emotion and feel behind out of it.

Could anybody tell me how to go about either setting up a dual-tone so one side is totally dry OR offer an alternative solution step by step?

Also, if there is nothing of the sort of bypassing a tone like in POD Farm, I'd suggest the guys down at Line 6 to try incorperate that function into a new firmware update, as I feel on behalf of a lot of people it would make the POD HD series a lot more popular!

*NOTE* - I don't have an audio interface such as the UX1 or UX2 (anymore), It's just me, my guitar, my POD HD 500 and the USB and my MacBook Pro.

Thanks for any help in advice,

Nick.
