What gear are you using...right now?

Howdy metallites. I thought this line of discussion could be interesting as I'm sure there are a variety of levels and experience of players in here. Also, if you have any comments on your gear and possible upcoming purchases that would be cool as well. I have been playing for MANY years, but have maintained a certain level that keeps me satisfied yet always pushing for more. My gear...right now:
1988 Jackson Strat USA (main)
2009 Douglas Strat Custom (scalloped neck!!); this is the new toy I'm playing constantly...
2 other guitars...
VOX AD15VT amp
BOSS MT-2
Dunlop Cry Baby Wah
and of course
Line6 Pocket Pod
So, give a shout out with what you're using. Peace. ![]()
Here's my current gear list for live use.
Dean Razorback V
Original BC Rich M7 Mick Thompson Signature Warlock modded with the KFK EMG set (81/85 with PA-2 Gain Booster)
ESP/LTD MH400NT with EMG 81/85
Gigrac 1000 watt PA head for good clean power
Line 6 Pod X3 Live
Line 6 Pod XT Live
Line 6 Spider II 320 watt 4x12 Cabinet
I have a Spider II head and a Crate Powerblock that I dont use anymore, just keep them around for backups.
Here's some pics:
Currently working on modifying an old guitar case to house both the X3L and XTL for simultaneous use live. Been working on some patch combinations to make use of the midi preset change controls. Pretty cool so far.
I dont use much L6 gear at home recording. I have a Presonus Inspire GT firewire interface I use in conjunction with the Amplitube series of software plugins for most of my recordings. It's so much easier to just grab the guitar and play instead of having to unpack my gear everytime I want to hook up to the PC.

Nice Tank on the truck in the background there
Nice man, digging those axes. Which model Madison cabinets do you have?

Thanks! Ron at Mammoth Custom makes killer guitars. Check him out at the links above.
The cabs are are Madison MAG-H412's. They have 2 Celestion Vintage 30's and 2 Celestion 12-75's in them in a cross pattern.
Cool Madison cab man...I have Madison Symphony and Minstrel in my Flextone III XL, Legion 212 cabs and SV112...Man, I wish they still made those speakers...I am slapping together a new rig for my band since we finished the album and we close to doing some gigs...I realized that for live with this band I do not need nearly as much in terms of FX as I would with a cover band so I have simplified quite a bit...I think the only other thing I might add is a Flanger in front of the the DM-3...
SV112 and 212 cab
Boss BCB-60 pedal board
Signal Path
GTR->Boss NF-1 (When it arrives)->Strymon OB.1->Boss->AW-3->Boss DS-1->Boss FZ-5
SV FX loop Boss DM-3 Analog Delay...
PODXT bean is my spare...
I cabled it up rough at rehearsal the other night and really liked how it worked and now I just have to make my cable snake and get things show ready...I will post some pics when it's a little less sloppy...
What a coincidence...San Dimas....I just finished watching Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

I keep my currently used gear simple:
ESP/LTD Viper Baritone w/ EMG 81/85
Spider Valve head (always Metal amber) + 4x12 Marshall cab
Digitech Whammy (no effects from the amp)
In the near future I'll add a 7string, most probably an ESP/LTD Viper 417.
MGrd:
Hey if you're in the market for a 7string before you spend too much money on the ESP let me recomnmend you look at seven strings here first to get more bang gor your buck:
Follow link and go to seven strings:
My Current Gear:
Shecter C-1 Hell raiser FR
Agile 3100 Black Bound
Agile 3000 White/Gold
Blue Ridge Acoustic
Kramer Strat Customized
SV HD100/ Vetta II 4x12 Cab
Podxtl
BBE Sonic Maximizer
Digitech Whammy
Art Tube Pre-amp
Crate Power Block
Apologist, thanks a lot for the hint!
This Agile Interceptor looks very interesting.
I can tell ya from owning two of them ...well not the 7-string you mention but same company ... I play them the most because they're just darn good guitars and the price makes them that much better. I love both my Agiles and when I can afford it and the custom shop reopens I may make a custom Agile with a FR.
Lately I've been playing a customized killer pirate with blackouts thru a digitech rp 2000 into a randall g3 with a m13 and a kfk eq in the amp loop thru a randall 2x12 with eminence v12s. It's loud and portable.....
I have other stuff but this is what I play the most.

Well, I just got a new band together and wanted to do some things different. My main guitars for the past 10 yrs have been my 98' ESP Custom EXP for standard and my 84' Gibson V (both guitar have EMG's in them) for the stuff down a step. I wanted to go with passive pickups and play some of my other guitars that have been getting neglected, but I've myself back on my ESP. I really wanted to use my 99' Gibson Gothic V as my main guitar, but I've never been happy w/the 500T and the 496R. I'm gonna buy a red DiMarzio Air Norton for the neck and a red Super Distortion for the bridge with a push/pull for tapping the coils. Once I do I'll be looking to give the ESP a vacation. However, I recently got my 1st 7 string, it's a 2000 Epiphone Les Paul(modded with locking tuners and EMG's) that I'm going to work in the band music and that'll be my #2 guitar as wel as backup.
My rig as it stands
SV HD100 modded with SVPre with mini-switches for the push modes on the front of the amp, all 3 preamp tubes are JJ ECC83's, and green LED's so the L6 logo lights up green
K-100 loaded Avatar 4X12 cab
shortboard for controlling the SV
Digitech Rp200A that I found hiding in the closet.....still trying to figure out effects for the SV. My X3L seems to suck the tone out of the SV abit, but the Digitech works nicely for Noise gate, compression and an extra effect like pitch shift/harmony or acoustic sim.
EH Smallstone
EH Bassballs
535Q Wah
MXR ZW Overdrive
Ibanez RG 7321 with Blackout's in bridge and neck.
82 Fender Strat with pearly gates in bridge and handmade aluminum pick guard
32 Gibson L-0 Acoustic handed down from my father in-law
Spider Valve 212 with SVpre, JJ ECC83s in all pre-amp positions and JJ 6L6GC in power section
Marshall Valvestate 8240 for a backup amp
MXR Smart Gate
Les Paul Custom Midnight EMGs 81/85
Jackson JS20 Dinky with custom EMG 81 bridge
Line 6 Spider Valve HD 100
Line 6 4/12 Slant cab Celestion vintage 30s
Line 6 FPV Express pedal board
Line 6 Uber Metal effects pedal
(waiting to get Jackson Kevin Bond signature)
I play classic air play metal primarily. Anything from old Judas to new Ozzy too VH,etc... as well as I am a 80's Thrash fan
and play some old Anthrax,Exodus,Testament,etc....
Im a bit on the cheap these days what with a house,car,kids,grndkids,ex,etc.............
So heres my low $$$ rig that nails everything I play.
Guitars:
MIK Epiphone LP Custom/ebony finish - Duncan pickups(AN2P-Sh-11) tuned to E flat
Peavey V-Type ntb Pearl finish - Dimarzio pickups(Air Norton-Super Distortion) tuned too D
Amps:
Laney Gh 50 L and Peavey MS 4x12(sheffield 1230's)
Line6/Bogner MKI Spider Valve 112 and shortboard controller
Effects(Laney only):
Boss CE 2,Dunlop Cry Wah,Ibanez TS-9,Boss BF 2,MXR 10 band eq.
Ive used both amps quite well in my Metal cover band and am toying with doing an A-B-Y rig but the little Spider Valve works like a champ on its own and is a simple as pie package too setup and take down honestly.
LTD by ESP f-50 (w/some Duncan pups here shortly) and my Spider 4 120.
schecter blackjack atx with seymour duncan blackouts, schecter hellraiser anniversary model with chrome emg 81/85 bartell signature axe with emg 81/85.podxt.studio devil pro...i couldn't fit the pic of my hellraiser pic....
I play the more doomier kind of metal...
gear:
Amp: Hughes and Kettner Tube 100
Cab: London City 4x12...this one's and oldy..got 2 v30's en 2 greenbacks in 'm.
Guitars:
Esp LTD ec-300
Hagstrom Superswede cosmic blackburst
Effects:
Line 6 M9
Korg Pitchblack tuner.
Pretty basic setup..but good enough for me.
ESP M-II Deluxe (primary; a great, crazy fast and hot 80's metal machine, I keep in Eb tuning for my band's stuff)
ESP LTD EC-500 (secondary; almost as good as my M-II, it gets used for drop tunings and such)
Line 6 Spider IV 150
...and that's pretty much it. I've got a DigiTech RP350, but I only use it for church. I hope to someday get an ESP Horizon FR-II, or maybe a Jackson Soloist...once I have $2,000 to spend on one I'll choose.
Ibanez S Prestige S5470, Ibanez SR200 bass and various acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars, Shure S-27 condenser mics for main vocals in stereo and various Shure SM-57 and SM-58 mics for instruments and band member vocals
For practice, we use a Line 6 Spider IV 75 and Line 6 Lowdown LD150 for the bass. Line 6 FBV Shortboard MK !! and FBV Express Mk II control boards.
A Line 6 JM4 looper pedalboard is also used with a Fender Frontman 65R for solo practices and overdubbing, using the built-in effects and drum beats on the JM4. Lots of fun!
Our recording efforts are on an Apple iMac dual-core 2.66 GHz, 4 GB ram and 4 TB external storage hosting Ableton Live and Apple Logic studio 9, hooked up to a Line 6 Toneport UX8 audio interface.
Effects are selected from the Line 6 Pod Farm II FX Library that comes with the UX8.... An Akai MPK 49 midi keyboard with genuine MPC pads is used as the control surface for both Ableton Live and Logic 9.
Studio monitors are KRK Rokit 8 G2, a KRK 10S sub and a KRK Ergo module for room correction.
Each band member has a computer at home with an Ableton Live 8 license to create /add tracks for songs in development. They can access each other's tracks from a shared file storage area on the web.
Other gear used off location include Fender Amer. Strat., Takamine bass, electronic drum set, Fender bassman amp and Fender tube amplifier.
Updated List: Got a new V from Rondo's Custom shop and upgraded from original SV to SVMKII w/FBMKII also included recording info: would love to collaborate and anyone who has tips on how to do drums better or would like to maybe do some drum work send me a PM

Guess thats about it, nothing special but does the job well and easy to control. I do more recording than live playing though. But ran thru P.A., works just fine.
Two Squier Stagemaster FR Strats(24 fret neck-through with Licensed Floyd Rose) w/Guitar Fetish Power Rails in the bridge of both
Line 6 POD HD500
Peavy Special 212
Behringer VTX 2x12 combo
Monster Cables
Dunlop Jazz III, the matte black ones
Goes from guitar to POD to both combos. Technically its a stereo set-up, but mostly I like to use both combos because one is open back, the other sealed, and together they make any awesome combination of clarity and boom for really, really, really low tuning we play in, which is Drop Ab. I always get giggles from the other "heavy" (and I use that term very loosely) bands we play with when I'm setting up my two little combos and plugging in my Squiers and everyone else has Mesas, 5150's, Engls, whatever....but almost undoubtedly after the show at least one of them is gonna ask me how I get my tone.
Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 7-string with Piezo
Line 6 Pod HD 500
Elixir strings and cables
Dunlop Carbon Fiber Jazz III picks
I am playing two customized Ibanez JS100's upgraded to the 1000 series specs. Sold off all my other guitars because this model does it all.
Effects:
Pod HD500 with a Mission Engineering expression pedal added.
Ibanez TS9
Cry Baby Wah
Vox JS Time Machine Delay
TC Elecronics NR-1 Nova Reverb
Carl Martin Compressor Limiter
Carl Martin Noise Terminator
Custom Effects Selector with Loop
Amplification:
Two Tech 21 Power Engine 60 4X10
My basic guitar signal goes into the Effects Selector loop, Compressor > Cry Baby > Tube Screamer > HD500. I use one of the effects blocks on the HD500 as an effects loop into which my effects selector loop can process the compressor, noise gate, delay & reverb in multiple configurations or completely bypass the effect signal. I have found this to be a benefit because I am able to use the other HD500 effects along with the expression pedals and not run out of DSP plus still have the entire signal chain exit the HD500 so that USB and the other outputs carry the entire signal. To house all of this I have a 16.5" X 30" CNB flight case with all effects either screwed into the case or held in place by 2" wide industrial strength velcro. The case has enough room for all of my cables and a 15' extension cord for extending the power supply.
Amp:flextone 3 XL
Pedal:HD500
Guitars:Variax700, berdux with Alexi Laiho Pickups, Silverstar with hubucker from hell, sds-1, stk-2.
i try and keep a steady rotation of....
Guitars:
Jay Turser Les Paul JT-200 w/purple flame top, set neck, all gold harware, MOP serpent inlay, & gold Duncan Blackouts
BC Rich Body Art 4/2003 Skull Pile V w/ Active DragonFire's, diamond inlays, custom neck, & all Skull hardware
Custom made Black Diamondplate Explorer (gibson shape), with ebony fretboard, and GuitarHeads Metalbucker passives
BC Rich NJ Beast w/red flame top, diamond inlays, & EMG 81/85 (only used for live performances (rarely used)
i've also got a vintage Dean ML, an old BC Rich Ironbird, and some other no-namers...but i almost never use them. If i had to pick one, i would use the Dean as it's a great guitar, i just always seem to pick up something else.
Amps/cabs:
currently using the Line 6 HD147 (love it!) & the shortboard
4x12 Peavy w/Sheffield speakers
4x12 Crate w/ various Celestion speakers
....but building/modifing, and can't wait to use them (not super happy with current cabs)...
custom Mesa Rectifier 4x12 slant w/ Celestions v30's, 4-ohm stereo
custom 2x15 w/ Eminence 154's, 4-ohm stereo
(running each cab in stereo)
for at-home practice, i've use a 2x12 Marshall Valvestate combo
