help with TOOL tone

Hey I'm wondering if theres any effects wizards out there that could help me out with the Tool song "sober"?  I own an x3 live and I am trying to find a pedal tone and setting for the verses of the song.  I own an epi LP custom with SD JBs in the bridge.  That part of the song when Adam Jones plays is particularly glassy with a lot of ring but its pretty clean.  If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Can you give me a bit more to go on ...like maybe minutes and seconds into song ... I think I know what you're referring to ...where its semi-clean and has the slight vibrato to it.

Adam Jones is one of my favs so I love to do his tones.

I have to tell ya though that the Peavey Vypr nails it with its clean channel setting on the Diezel semi-dirty punchy crisp ...very nice ..very easy to dial in.

I'll work on a patch for ya but keep in mind Im using the Podxtl so you will have to adjust for your X3.

I'll use headphones for tone assuming you're using Studio Direct even though I have mine set for Stack Front with Mids set around 700 for cutting through ...thinking about changing that to lower mids since that's what seems to lack when cranked at times ...

At any rate I have lots of work to get done today but I'll work on it at some point today and let ya know when I think it's close and send it to ya.

This is an attempt to upload a Dirty and a cleaned up dirty tone for Sober.

I assumed the upload worked even though my PC showed time out error uploading files.

At any rate I hope these work okay for you.

If not tell me what you think is lacking and Ill be happy to try and adjust.

I tried using rotary horn to get tremolo plus warble effect that seems prominate in his semi-dirty clean tone for Sober. It was best I could think of since only one mod can be used at a time .. though I suppose I could try increasing verb and use delay for Mod effect only along with trem? But if this works for ya why bother ...I also put a high gain patch in there turn the flange off if you dont like it or down in the mix if its not subtle enough for you .. I kinda like it in the mix for the song since it sounds like he has slight flange or slow chorus going on gain guitars too in parts.

My old band used to cover that song. I always used some tremolo, chorus, and a bit of flange. Not perfect, but it was close enough.

    BTWFWIW:

The Blue Compression with treb boost is great for adding glassiness or edge to gain to me it has the perfect high end boost so I have been using it rather than gain stomps and along with the amp's own natural gain to taste. It adds a percusive edgey bite to tones ...I crank the sustain to 100% and the level to 30-50 depending on tone.

Hey, I'll see if I can get ahold of a Guy I made patches for the whole 'Undertow' CD for him. I thought they were good.... and he did too!!! He bought them from me! But they were made on a Pod Pro years ago.

knowing Tool it could be an overdub. Almost sounds like a Hammond Organ to me. We play the song and when we do people go so Ape S**T I don't think they notice that i use a univibe for that part at all.

It sound like he is using a leslie in the clean parts of the song. It is set to fast spin on the chording parts and is slowed down for the latter part of the verse ie: "...I will chew it up and leave..." I have a setting on my PODxt for this song and I use the FBV shortboard expression pedal to control the speed of the Rotary Drum/Horn modulation effect. The problem is that rise/fall rate in the effect is too slow for the song but it gets close if you time it right. as far as the amp I use I will have to lok into that when I get home. I will try to send my patches when I get a chance.
