"No Line 6 device connected"...

I did some searching but didn't come up with anything... I just installed Monkey & Edit on a laptop to take to my studio with the amp when trying to get a handle on setting up this amp for gigs (for some reason it's taking a biut more effort than the MkI did...). However, I can't seem to get the computer to recognize the amp/FBV. I'm running a fairly new Acer laptop (core 2 duo @ 1.2GHz), XP service pack 3, 2GB RAM, ... The first few times I plugged the FBV in is showed connected to Line 6 something or another, now it just makes a noise when I plug it in. When I start Edit, all I get is defaults and it says "No Line 6 device connected". Can someone tell me the fix for this, or point me to a link? Thanks in advance!
BTW, the FBV thinks it's connected, at least the display indicates it...
Well, I called in for advice and it was kind of futile. I got everything working on my desktop machine (running Windows 7), and since this was the case support just left it at 'there must be something going on with your laptop...' . I started to ask about checking out the drivers and any possible conflicts, but support didn't want to go there. I figured since Line 6 wrote the software they might be able & willing to help troubleshoot. I guess not...
Soooo, anybody running Edit/Monkey on an XP machine? When I plug the FBV in, I hear 2 bell tones (i.e. 2 devices getting mounted) - is this correct? When I go into Device Manager, I see 2 devices added: USB Audio Controller under the Sound, video and game controllers catagory; and USB Composite Device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers catagory. Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
Does anybody else have this problem under XP???
Hello,
Line 6 Edit won't work with your FBV MkII.
If you want to dial in tones through the FBV MkII to your Spider Valve then download Spider Valve MkII Edit which you can download from http://line6.com/software/.
Does Line 6 Monkey see your FBV Shortboard MkII when you connect it via USB?

Thanks for posting, Line6Miller! Sorry for the confusion - I do have Spider Valve MkII Edit. No, Monkey does not see the pedal/amp on the laptop running XP either.
Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me. When you plug your FBV pedal into your computer via USB does the computer make a beeping sound?
Also, after connecting the FBV pedal via USB go to your Device Manager on your computer and see if it shows up under Sound Video and Game Controllers.
Right Click on My Computer>Manage>Device Manager>Sound Video and Game Controllers
Also, have you tried all USB ports on your computer? Have you tried connecting it to a different computer?
Line6Miller
Yep, when I plug it in it makes a bell ringing sound (i.e. mounting a USB device).
Under Sound, video and game controllers it appears as a 'USB Audio Device'. I also see 'USB Composite Device' under Universal Serial Bus controllers when it's plugged in. Both of these go away when I unplug.
Yep, tried all 4 of the USB ports on the laptop - same story.
Everything works fine on my desktop, which is running Window 7. Can't really turn up the amp at home though - which is why I'd like to take the laptop to the studio with me ...
Thanks again for the help!!!
OK. So it looks like the computer is recognizing the FBV. What about Line 6 Monkey 1.33? Does that software recognize the pedal?
Let's just see if we can get the pedal to be recognized by wither Monkey or the FBV Control software first and then we can move on to adding the amp into the equation.
Line6Miller
Line6 Monkey does not recognize the FBV either . :( I tried plugging in just the pedal (i.e. pedal not connected to the amp) and still no luck with Monkey. I read nickmattocks had the same problem with an identical laptop (Acer 8204WLMi) and posted a question to him. Any ideas you have I'm happy to try/investigate. Thanks!!!
I want to thank you for your help with this Line6Miller, and also report back. Please see the 'Q for Nick Mattocks' thread. I uninstalled all the webcam drivers/software and that took care of the issue. Monkey and Edit both see the amp/FBV with no issues now. Thanks again!
My Line 6 FBV control says the same, no line 6 device connected. And i also can't make the expression pedal do wah, it just does volume. How can i make it a cry baby?
I'm not sure about your Wah problem. Perhaps a firmware reinstall would do the trick. That seems to fix a lot of random oddities with the DSP. As for your connectivity problem, try it with no other USB devices plugged in. If that doesn't work, keep the devices unplugged, and open Device Manager. Right-click My Computer >> Properties >> "Hardware" tab >> Device Manager. Expand the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" tree, and remove all the items in the list. Start from the bottom and work up, right-clicking each and choosing "Uninstall." Close Device Manager and restart your computer. The point of this is to reinstall your USB drivers, which Windows will do automatically upon restarting. Sometimes the drivers can get corrupted and whatnot. Before reconnecting any other USB devices, try it again.
Good luck.

Can you list the computer type, make, model, OS and any USB devices that have ever been installed regardless of whether they are physically connected or not. The reason I ask is that I experienced the same issue in 2009 with the Shortboard and one of my laptops but only that laptop and not my other one. the problem turned out to be an installed Logitech Web Cam driver even though the Web Cam itself was not physically connected. The OS was Windows XP Pro in that instance. Removing all traces of the Web Cam driver resolved the issue.
The toe switch on the Shortboard can be hard to operate at first. It does require quite a bit of pressure to make it switch and you do need to stand on the pedal. Pressing by hand will not apply sufficient pressure.
