however, if its a gearbox issue, you have to have a newer version of gearbox that willl include the 12 effects.

@ zap3nc: Surely when I connect my X3 Pro to my pc and start up Gearbox, the effects that are active in the X3 are automatically authorized in Gearbox? This must be the case because like I said, I have no problem creating the tone on Gearbox when the X3 is connected ie. all the effects are present. It is ONLY when I create the tone on the X3 (not using Gearbox), and then I try double-clicking it on the preset patch-list page in Gearbox, that the error message comes up.

Besides, these are not complex tones I am creating. I had this problem on one as simple as a Dual Tone consisting of a Treadplate Dual on the Left and L6 Big Bottom on the Right and nothing more. I have both of those amps in Gearbox. In fact, I have the Gold Bundle authorized in Gearbox so this surely can't be the problem.

All my hardware AND software is fully up-to-date. This includes Gearbox which is already version 3.72

I set this up here with our POD X3 Pro (2.00) and Gearbox (3.72) and couldn't reproduce this. I set up a dual tone patch in User Bank 22A. Tone 1 is just a Plexi Lead and Tone 2 was a Soldano. Gearbox launched no problem. Let me know if I'm doing something differently then you.

It sounds like you are doing the same thing as me except with different amp selections.

I am running on a Windows 7 32 bit machine - Sony Vaio Laptop

Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.40GHz

2GB Ram

The original tone I was referring to in this thread I erased (the one with just 2 basic amps and no effects) but I have another one doing the same thing. I saved it as a bundle as I could not save the tone to my computer as Gearbox did not recognize it. When you open the bundle, the patch is saved to User Bank 1A "7th Heaven".

If you need just the tone, you will have to walk me through how to attach just that particular file as I'm not sure how I would do that.

Have you tried reinstalling the flash memory since this started occurring?

I have reinstalled the flash as well as rolling back  and reinstalling and I still encounter this problem. It doesn't always happen but it happens all the same.

  I did find this thread which is the same issue and the user just overwrote the problem patch with a new one and the problem went away.

I did see that thread before posting my question but it isn't the exact problem I am encountering. My issue differs in that it isn't just from trying to load the saved bundle. It happens when I create the tone using the X3 Pro, save it as a patch to the X3 and then try open gearbox. As I open Gearbox, it shows the tone name in the patch list that appears on the left of gearbox but when I try double-clicking the tone, I get the error message. This is before even saving it as a bundle and trying to reload it.

I can work around this by to re-creating the same tone directly through gearbox but that is still an issue if I don't have my pc available and I create a tone on the X3 that I would like to later tweak using gearbox. This requires that I then go through the X3's tone settings that I create, write them all down and then re-do the patch using gearbox.... time consuming to say the least.

The files are definitely being corrupted somehow but it's difficult to tell why, as it only happens intermittently with some of the tones I create, not all of them. And it doesn't happen with any specific effects. It's very random.

Any other suggestions or ideas?

I just tried to create a patch with cab sim off and the problem occurred again. Then I tried the exact same patch again and turned my cab sim on and whaddya know? IT WORKED!!! I tried it a few times with the same results so it looks consistent. Now I hope Line 6 do something about it as it seems this issue had them stumped.

I didn't mark it answered (mystery third person floating around in Line 6 cyber space must've) so I'm glad you took the time to read it. Thank you. And might I say, a very constructive first post !
