Corrupted SDRAM? this error displays when i turn on my SJ without SD Card inserted

I haven't used my SJ for months and have not even used an SD Card.
After the line6 logo appears when i turn it on it displays "CORRUPTED SDRAM" then it stops responding.
Any Quick Fixes?
I have used this amp possibly less than a dozen times only
Try a reset hold tone and switch on hold tone untill reset appears or reload software from SD card
you mean i press the tone/settings buttome for 5 to 8 secs when turning on right? did that for 20 secs more than 5x. no response. the corrupted sdram still comes up the display.
i tried to load sd card also. turn on while pressing save button right? after i insert the sdcard nothing happes it still says insert sd card. tried botting with the sd card already inside while pressing save button during boot. lcd still asks for sd card to be inserted even if sd card is already inside with latest fw.bin saved
sorry I cant post search corrupted SDRAM TOP RIGHT OF PAGE THIS FORUM IS CRAP CANT PASTE AND LINKS ARE USELESS AND THE SMILEYS DONT WORK

Hi,
From what I'm seeing on the forums this appears to be a hardware issue. You need to take the Spider Jam to a service center for repair.

although my SJ is more than 1 year old i've barely used it. total playing time could be less than 10 hour. how could this be a hardware problem? is this a durability issue? will it be a simple fix maybe i can do it myself so that i don't need to take it to a service center (w/c is very far).
ianpdq is right in having you look at Joe's web site, even though I do not see where Joe addresses this problem specifically, however, it is worth going through this http://www.joesjamblog.com/save2.html
have you ever had an SD car din the amp and had it working? have you successfully done a firmware upgrade using an SD card in this amp?
the thing that bothers me is that you say you get this error without any SD card even in the slot. Sure sounds like a hardware issue, like the SD card reader in the amp is screwy.
If the amp is out of warranty and you're not afraid of taking the amp apart to check connections take a look at this http://www.joesjamblog.com/fixes.html
mind you IF the amp IS under warranty you will VOID the warranty if you openb the amp yourself.
Having said all that I'm inclined to agree with Line6David - if you are getting this error without an SD card even in the slot I think your amp is in need of more help that we can give you and it needs to be looked at by a certified Line 6 Service center.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is card thickness. SD cards should conform to certain very tight tolerances in terms of physical dimensions but they do vary in thickness slightly from brand to brand. If a card is too thin, then there is insufficient spring in the contacts to give a reliable electrical connection. I haven't seen this problem myself but have read about it elsewhere. I have never had any problems with 2Gb SANDISK SD cards, which I usually use. Also, it helps to clean the contacts by polishing them with a tissue. If all else fails, I'm afraid it means a trip to the service center.
I allways use 2Gb SANDISK SD cards and never had a problem ![]()
if I am reading his question correctly the error is occurring WITHOUT an SD card in the amp.
This would lead me to beleive that the issue has nothing to do with an SD card.
But it wont reload the new firmware from SD card either which mite cure the problem ![]()
Hi Joe
As mentioned, i have not used any sdcard before the error came up. Will try your suggestion hopefully i can do a firmware upgrade
hi stevemason
I have NOT used ANY sdcard since i got my unit.
The first time i inserted one was when the corrupted sdram error appeared with an intention to update firmware but my SJ can not detect the SD.
When i insert SD with the latest fw It just says insert SD even if the SD is already inside.
If warranty is only one year then i guess i will just open up the amp since its more than a year already?
is this a durability issue? i've used my SJ about a dozen times only.
I've seen other complaints about this in the forum also
Thanks much for answering
Joe's bug is great. Specially the detailed instructions on how to "safely" open up the amp.
But i can't find section where we can fix the corrupted sdram error.
I think the sd"RAM" problem is an internal memory problem Random Access Memory.
It is not and SDCard problem right?
Hello,
We can't help you repair the amp yourself but it does look like a hardware issue.
You should check with your distributor to see if the can arrange a repair or replacement.

Thanks Hugo,
Can you tell me what exactly is the hardware error? Internal memory needs to be repaired/replaced? Will this be just a minor quick repair?
This means that this product is not durable since its been used a couple of times only?
It will be a board swap. If the repair center has the board in stock, it would take about 20-30 minutes total.
board swap? this sounds major and costly!
can u give me an estimate for labor and parts?
my sj just sits on my room doing nothing everyday.
i play it average once a month only
what is the cause?
this means the line6 products are not durable?
I don't work for Line6 so I have no idea what it costs for a repair. You will have to speak to the service center for an estimate.
Modern amps are modular, just like computers. The Spider Jam is a series of seven circuit boards interconnected by ribbon cables. The most common fault is with the ribbon cable connectors which can shake loose or just become tarnished by their environment and connections become less conductive. This can happen whether you use the amp or not and a humid sub-tropical climate is more likey to affect the connections than a dry one.
