Sustainiac?

Hi all,

I've ordered a JTV-69 and can't wait for it to arrive!

After recently getting back into guitar playing after 20 years off, I've fallen in love with Sustainiac pickups (www.sustainiac.com). I'm in a 3 piece band and I need to fill out our sound any way I can, so the infinite sustain along with the harmonics and squeels of artificially-induced feedback (even at very low volumes) are quite attractive to me.

So, my quesiton is:

Q: Have any of you ever put a Sustainiac pickup into the neck position of a Variax or do you know of any reason why it wouldn't work (such as interfering with the piezos in the bridge position of the Variax)?

On a related note, I'm hoping to make the JTV-69 my dream guitar, so I'm willing to make whatever mods necessary to do so. I'd love to hear your opinions on the tremolo system and pickups. Would you replace the tremolo system or the pickups with something better? If so, what components would you choose?

I'm currently playing a Jackson DK2S, which has a Sustainiac built-in as standard equipment. I love the guitar, including the tremolo system and hope that I love my JTV-69 as much when it arrives!

Thanks for your help,

     Soott

    Re: Sustainiac?

I don't expect anyone has actually done that yet - since the guitars are not yet publicly available.

But I do recall reading somewhere in the official product information that it is designed so that the mag pickups can be replaced without affecting the integrity of the system. So presumably the answer is yes - it can be done. However, a cautious person might wait a while to hear the results of the transplant experiments of the less cautious. Are you a leading-edge or bleeding-edge type of person?
